Or else nothing. By the time I realize that a book really isn't what I'd have wanted to read had I known its content, I most likely would've already bought it anyway. I also doubt ranting relentlessly in my own LJ would somehow bring revenge upon the author- not that I intend to harm people for writing things I wish I did not read- just saying ( Read more... )

since i didn't know about the original discussions so i don't think i wanna add much to what you have said already (which i pretty much agree with)... but most importantly, all those so called 'shallow fangirls' vs 'over zealous critic' means nothing to me personally (they are as boring as stale bread to me)... since you know i've got such a 'slutty' attitude towards fandom, to use the cliched quote "i don't know much about art (literature in this case), but i know what i like"...

i seriously think that one should be entitled voice to his/her opinion towards any character/story development/interpretation of author's intention in a 'mature' fandom without being labelled or vilified...

Have you ever encountered one such mature fandom? I luckily have, twice, the English OP fandom included actually! I think people are less likely going to bitch fight in smaller fandoms, where you can't afford to scare anyone away!
