The smoky haze beside Chase shimmered and suddenly Lyrae was there. The mist and the light made using Folded Light effectively extremely difficult. There were limits to the weave.
Her powers were merely used to tactical advantage. To use them while engaging the opponent would be unsportsman-like.
"They are well-organized, certainly."
The heightened senses that accompanied the power were certainly helpful. Glancing across, she saw the flicker of a light from an opponent's vest, far out of the normal visual range. A simple shot. A grin as a scream of invectives and cries to know who shot him rewarded her marksmanship.
"Yeah, well, they probably have some kinda cult hivemind thing set up," he mutters, grinning. "Nice shot, by the way."
He leans out from behind the pillar and lays down a hail of laser fire, nailing one of the purple-robed weirdos, and darts behind another obstacle. It's like being out in the field again, but without anything huge at stake. Chase is in his element.
Lyrae would not engage in any of this crouching and cowering business. It was undignified. She preferred to stroll across the field of battle taking cover as strictly necessary.
"You, similar to our ape-like friend, seem quite at home here."
The college guy was seen gibbering battle cries and running full-speed towards the enemy base, attempting to dispose of the enemy in a blaze of glory before they did the same to him, and only partly succeeding.
"Yeah, 'cause I've had practice with the real thing," he says, dispatching another cultist.
"Somehow, I don't think he's ever been involved in an actual shootout. You know, just a hunch."
One shaven-headed freak lets loose with an earsplitting, unintelligible screech and aims for Chase's vest. Chase narrowly misses being hit, but he still manages to escape unscathed.
