the slacker dictator

When reading about Hitler's daily life, one cannot but wonder how he ever got anything conquered at all. The idea that a modern CEO would sleep in till around 11am because they had not gone to bed until 2am is so surreal it requires re-reading.

In the age of the 100 hour work week, one might be tempted to say, "No wonder you lost the war." to the ( Read more... )

As Norm Macdonald once said about Hitler, "... the more I learn about that guy, the more I don't care for him."

So I of course have no data to back up this claim, but anecdotally I believe it's not the CEO's that are putting in the 100 hour work weeks. Of course they'd like you to think they work hard (not that I have a particular business owner in mind).

As far as I know from those of my friends and colleagues who have 100+ hour work weeks, they do not sleep 9hr a day, for the simple reason that there are other waking activities that they have to get accomplished that do not count as work.

But, it is true that after sleeping for 9 hours, one is awake for 15, and seven times of that comes to 105 waking hours. And I suppose someone could work all of that time and achieve a 100+ work week. And possibly Hitler, who had no family and no shopping to do on his own, could have done it this way.

It might be more profitable to look into how many hours other commanders and generals slept, a potentially more meaningful comparison. I am thinking of Napoleon, Robert E Lee or Philip II of Spain--precursors to the CEOs.
