Sling HELP!!

So, even though my due date is tomorrow, I've suddenly decided that I'd really like to have a baby sling. I avoided looking into them because I read all the suffocation warnings, and I ended up getting a regular carrier, which is fine! But now I've realized there's something really organic and natural about slings, and I'd like to get one ( Read more... )

IMO, the simpler the better. I have a sash-type sling that I used for my DS and now my DD. Both of them love it and you can carry them up to 30 lbs (I believe) in the hip carry. Out of the 3 you've chosen, I like the first one. Here's a link to a sling that's very similar to what I have:

Sling #3

I hate ring slings, and found it to be uncomfortable to carry the weight on one shoulder.

I love my Maya ring sling. It's so versatile and adjustable, I used it with my son from the time he was born until he was three or so, carrying him on my chest, back, and hips, and facing him in or out depending on his mood. It made nursing in public easier, too. Your first link looked like it had padding, though, which makes me wary. You don't want your baby to be able to slip down, and you want to be able to tighten the sling as much as you need to keep him right up against your body (more comfortable for you and safer for the baby!)

I'm with hangeroner. Ring slings are only okay while the baby is super tiny, and that's over before you know it. One like #3 is usually more versatile, and will allow you to hold the child on your back as they get bigger. All for it, but I like my didymos. The super long one you tie yourself. It's SO MUCH EASIER than it initially looks, and it's definitely the most comfortable and versatile. Just intimidating at first, because of the whole baby-origami thing.

I have three carriers.

First, I really like my Kangaroo Korner sling. You can use it for a long time because of all the different methods of carrying:
