Ramses: Son of Light

I recently went to Half-Price Books. That is my favorite place ever to get books now. They have all the things B&N has, but really half the fucking price. TWICE THE AMOUNT OF BOOKS! And, it’s so funny. Because I read books, a lot…..but I already have more books than I’ll be able to read, and I still keep buying more. LOL, I think I just like owning ( Read more... )

I would say I'm passionate about music ... there are certain songs that just capture me ... they express my feelings the way in a way I never could. I also like to read a lot ... lately I haven't been doing it much because of all the reading I have to do for school but I do love to read.

Wow, that book sounds absolutely amazing! I'm going to have to go searching for it. I know how you feel about a book-find making your day, though - I found a fantastic second hand book on Egypt''s mythology and history and it totally made my day better. It's a recent book, a 97, and is so far the only book I've read that acknowledges that there was no Egyptian religion, but instead a huge collection of different ideas, myths and gods. It's a fascinating book ( ... )

Awww.....that's exactly what the fuck I was talking about. Awesome stuff hun. :) I love the way people talk about things when they're passionate about them, it's so fascinating...

Looking at the Pharaohs in glass cages in museums and broken temples makes me cry, but imagining it fills me with love. Ah, Egypt.

Yep. :)

Wow, I've never heard that either. Interesting. I guess it's because I'm not that interested in Egyptain death and myths like most Egyptologists are.....I'm interested in what that ancient egyptians lives were like, especially the royals.

That's awesome. :)

Ah, the royals! *loves* I can't get enough of them either. I loved the part in your post when you talked about the fact that they cried, and had hangovers, and partied - it's so true! Most people I talk to have this view that they were... untouchable, not as human. Sure, the kings were supposed to have been Osiris reincarnated, but they were still human, and I love that. I love that you see pictures of the kings going hunting with everyone else.

Reading about Egyptian daily life is also so fascinating :D I mean, jeez, they really celebrated life! So many old scholars think that the only thing they're obsessed with is death, but I think they were really just careful in making sure their spirits got where they wanted to go. They were obsessed with life, too. If it wasn't obvious through the huge amounts of festivals and celebrations, then it's certainly obvious through how they dressed, what they built and what they drew ( ... )

Man, I know! It's so weird....people really have a tendency to believe people who aren't from other cultures aren't as human, or don't experience the same type of things.

That's so true. It's always fascinated me. :)

It was saddening because all the stuff belonged in Egypt

I know, that kind of thing has always been bittersweet for me as well. I think that us Westerners basically raping people of their cultures artifacts is wrong. I hate it. I think they should keep all the Egyptian stuff in Egypt, and loan some of it out around the world......like they're doing with the Tutankamun (sp?!) exhibit now. But, then again, I love having the ability to go see Egyptain things in my local museum without having to actually go to Egypt.
