I've been a fan of Plath for nearly 5 years and know much about her life that it was hard not the have a preconceived notion of what the film should be like. I tried pretending I had no knowledge, but it was still bad.

Part of why the movie didn't work, I think, was because most of her friends, who are still living, did not want to be part of the project--in fact, most condemned it. I think the only people who were supporting characters (aka: an editor for the newspaper she got reviewed for and Assia, Hughes's mistress/2nd wife) are people who are dead now. That's probably why it's so boring.

i'm not sure how true this is, but i heard it was mostly about her relationship with ted hughes (whom i loathe) and her death, and not much else.

it just seems to leave so much out.

Yes, that's a fair representation of the movie--they met, they married, he cheated, she died. THe end. Blah Blah Blah.

I think Ted Hughes just gets a bad rep for killing 2 wives (haha). I've read very few of his poems and don't know much about him outside of Sylvia.
