You're right, plasma is better. I was going to ge an LCD, but I'm now going to get a Plasma :-)

I'm doing quite well ... fallen into that trap of getting all settled with the Mrs X moving in a year or so back. Still, it's all going well.

dunno, my tosh lcd has a superb picture even with a sd signal. LCD's have come a long way in the last couple of years + you don't have to burn the screen in before use which most plasma users forget to do.

That 200 hours running in time for Plasma might be tricky ...seing as we only watch a couple of hours per day ... I'll have to leave it on over the weekend ...

But, Plasma it shall be, if for nothing more than it sounds more cyber/star trek than LCD ;-)

My main problem is forcing myself to part with such a whopping amount of cash.

Plasmas eat electricity - similar amount to a washing machine. ( not so bad if you don't watch much telly)
If you want flatscreen then generally LCD is the way to go for the moment.
Laser TV's should start to come out later this year, and will probably take over the larger flatscreen market from plasmas.

but... NONE of them will give you the picture quality of a good CRT !

"Plasmas eat electricity - similar amount to a washing machine. "

They certainly do that. It's a little worrying, because X-Mansions is so well insulated, my room will heat up like an oven. When I used my projector, that really made the room hot, even in winter!

"but... NONE of them will give you the picture quality of a good CRT !"

This is something I've noticed. -bat's Sony 32" CRT beats any LCD/PLasma I've seen. Even our cheap (free) Daewoo telly gives a pretty decent picture.

"Laser TV's should start to come out later this year"

Ahh, there is always something better ... which is a little frustrating since I want a TV to last 10 years ... I'm still using a 1970's TV in the lounge. It's as old as me! I wonder how many TV's these days will last that long :-/

Ahh, there is always something better ...

yeah, the laser ones will no doubt be expensive to start.

I still use a wide screen CRT (Panasonic), because there isn't anything better.

I've noticed projectors are really dropping in price, because of high power LEDs. So I may end up going to that.

Projectors are fantastic, if you have the room. I used to use mine all the time, even for regular TV. In Amsterdam I had a large lounge and had it projecting onto a white wall with the image size floor to ceiling. When I moved here I originally set up up my bedroom with the projector taking centre stage.

I had thought about a projector, but we have too much stuff now ...what with the Mrs X's shoe collection ;-)

If you do get one, make sure it's 720p (or 1080p if you've the cash), otherwise you lose a lot of the image when displaying wide screen.

...I do miss not having a 12' screen. TV's are so tiny.

Sorry about your great uncle, - at least he had a good long life. I hate the way that you always learn so much about someone after they die, then you wish you could have talked to them about stuff.
