I'm happy with the ruling on songfics.

Whether we like song fics or not I don't really think is the point. Once again ff.net is putting more rules on people's imagination. Just like when they banned the whole NC-17 stuff. Which I was part of because I don't like having a limit on my imagination. I feel that Xing is just going a little strict on things, but then again it is his site and he can do whatever the hell he wants with it. I feel sorry for those writers who are inspired by a song and think its perfect for a fanfiction, getting their account deleted because of it.

How is it limiting a person's imagination? You don't have to post your fic on ff.net; it's not like having your work archived there is manditory if you're a fic writer. If you don't like how it is, just find another archive for it, or create your own. [shrug]

I think it's more than a little absurd, since it's all technically plagarism anyway. I agree with you though that most of it sucks ass.
I do kinda like to put lyrics at the beginning of mine sometimes to provide a mood of some sort, but oh well. I'll just do that here.

Very good point. I hadn't really thought of it that way. But even though it's more perfunctory than anything, I think it's okay for Xing to ban song!fics if it means we still get to keep posting at ff.net.

& I think quoting songs or other pieces of literature or people at the beginning of a piece is indeed a good way to set the mood. I don't think you'd get reported for it though. People are really freaking out over this ruling, but when you get down to it, no one's going to report anything.

people report things all the time, Amyfusigiyugi was reported many times for having NC content in her fics. Although she keeps putting them back under different names. But still people are petty and will report you if you're not careful.

The person reporting amyfushigiyugi is probably reporting her story over and over again. Frankly, I don't blame them. Her fics exceed the rating.

the first thing that ff.net says when you go to the site is unleash your imagination right? I think it needs to be changed, to unleash your imagination as long as you follow strict rules.

I respect your opinion, but I think you're being immature. What you're talking about is a virtual anarchy of sorts. Being able to post things without rules - that's silly. Furthermore, it's not Xing's fault most of the time when rules need to be tightened. When we had to cut the music group fanfic, it was because real people were complaining about being put in disgusting situations. When we had to cut NC-17 it was because mothers were complaining about their children being exposed to those things. Now, we have to cut song!fics because, like it or not, it can be misconstrued as plaguarism.

I think we should be grateful that Xing puts up with all the crap he gets, and still runs the site, letting people join for free. The poor guy's just trying to avoid being smacked in the face with lawsuits. & I think there's plenty of ways to be imaginative without the use of smut or song lyrics.

Don't care. I've always skipped lyrics in songfics, anyway. Rarely do I ever read them.

Hahaha, me too ♥. They're so long and boring and inconsequential.
