[MHHQ - locked to those who'd be there]

X PINpointed himself and Harpuia, holding Phantom's device, directly into the incoming patient ward of the Hunter medbay. Across the ward, there were a number of triage examination alcove stations along the walls. One station had a humanoid medic looking over a human Hunter's dislocated shoulder. Several stations further down was another ( Read more... )

There were no more outbursts; Harpuia simply stayed quiet, and all but grafted to X.

At the same time was the faint murmur of Phantom's presence, not quite 'awake' but aware nonetheless.

This request required another few minutes before Harpuia complied, looking dubious and more skittish than ever.

Once the armour was gone, what remained was a light -- and rather shredded -- bodysuit, easily removed if Lifesaver required.

Lifesaver did indeed require, and set about removing the remains of the bodysuit. X stepped in to help as well.

For all Lifesaver's size, and often gruff mannerisms, he was surprisingly gentle as he worked. He took care not to aggravate any of Harpuia's barely sealed injuries as he peeled away the shreds of bodysuit.

"I'm going to hook you up to a coolant line as well. You've lost a lot of fluid and your core is heating up." Lifesaver spoke up as he removed the last of the bodysuit down to Harpuia's hips. After uncovering the concealed abdominal ports, he reached for the cables to hook up to Harpuia.

Harpuia cooperated (more or less), not going out of his way to be any kind of obstruction as X and Lifesaver worked.

But -- despite his efforts -- he trembled and hissed when the remnants of the bodysuit were tugged away from his winglets and the array of ports mounted between them ...

... and no wonder.

He'd managed to pull off the unusual, to say the least; the corrosion around the base-joints of his winglets, where the smooth enameled metal met pseudoflesh, could almost have been flesh-and-blood infection.

X had kept a rather grim expression as he'd worked. With every piece of bodysuit removed, Harpuia's injuries became more obvious. As X pulled the fabric away from the wings and ports he hissed, himself, in a mix of sympathy and shock. The mass of exposed ports was an unexpected shock on it's own, the infected-looking base of the winglets was doubly so ( ... )

Quailing a little, Harpuia hunched closer to the bed as the limbs in question shivered uncontrollably, looking for all the world as if he suddenly expected punishment or worse.

"Tried ... tried ..."

A soft murmur brushed against X's awareness, Phantom stirring in response to the distress.

[I believe ... that the technicians intended to carve all out of him, altogether.]

[perhaps -- there is no access ... for autorepair ...?]

At Harpuia's reaction, X laid his hands on his shoulders and gently squeezed. "It's okay. We'll get it fixed."

[That might explain it. It looks like it's had a while to spread.]

Lifesaver, oblivious to the exchange with Phantom, frowned to himself. "I'll need to run diagnostics on autorepair. It might just be the stress and resource depletion. But we can't count out a problem with autorepair itself."

"Phantom says there might not be any access for autorepair to his winglets. The techs apparently intended to remove it completely." X scowled himself.

Lifesaver nodded. "If that's the case, we'll fix that as well." Then he blinked abruptly and eyed X in confusion. "He's talking to you?"

X nodded. "It's like talking to Zanzibar. He's trying to conserve his energy, though."

Lifesaver nodded. "Right, then. For now I'm going to start the data scan." He moved to the console and began starting up the data scan sequence.
