a peek into the pit II

Hello, lj land…it been awhile since I’ve gone ghost here.

Most of my online presence has been confined to the 140 character world of twitter since I became disenchanted with all the changes with lj…and I’ve dabbled a bit on google + and tumblr (mainly for art purposes, on tumblr). But nothing compares to the camaraderie I felt with my lj friends, ( Read more... )

Good to hear from you! I'm still around. I'm also on FB and g+, but livejournal is where I prefer to be. :)

ugh. FB is the devil. I created one finally for dj purposes, but always am horrified when i think of how many people I don't want to know are on there and might find me ahaha!

i've not found too many people on g+, but that is prob b/c i tend to know people by alias.

This southern gothic -> brit folk thing really excites me. We should figure out a way to make those connections clearer.

I have an old cassette of my grandfather playing guitar and singing some weird old songs I should let you hear sometime. "Preacher & the Bear" is one of them.

I think I shall start by posting some of my favorite southern covers of old british folk songs, such as the Everly Bros' Barbra Allen and Down in the Willow Garden. Will probably do something by genre, such as:

1. Antebellum Murder Ballads
2. Pre-revolutionary Songs of Unrequited Love ending in Death(s)
3. Modern Southern Gothic in Country Music(can you say whiskey lullaby by Brad Paisley+Allison Krauss!)
4. Modern Souther Gothic in Dirty South Rap
5. Southern Gothic and the Blues
etc
etc
etc

Of course this also hinges nicely into my Splatter Platter obsession with 1950-60s teenage bubblegum pop songs involving untimely deaths, and my love of super sad country music.

And I feel O.V. Wright needs more love...I never hear people reference him anymore.

if you want to lend me some technical help and patna up with me on this project, I would be so honored!

Why hallo thar! :D

I hardly use LJ anymore either unless it's to blather on even MORE about comic books hahaha But I agree that there is a certain appeal/allure to an actual (online) diary of sorts. Also, I've been here since I was in high school and habits, no matter how bad, are hard to kick. I guess it would be the same reason I'm STILL dead_relena after all these years XD

It's good to see you pop up on the old Flist <3

I said it before, but i'm so glad you are back ;DDD For me there isn't really any other place like livejournal, where you can privately record your thoughts and engage with others on such a scale.

I'm interested to read about all your new interests, very intriguing. And I agree that the buck tick comm is one of the best places to be, everyone so friendly and welcoming and absolutely no drama...wonderful!
