This morning I was up at 7, because the heating engineer would come round to check the system and for all I knew he might be at the door at 8. He arrived at 9:45 and was gone at 10:30 or so, leaving the rest of the day to me. It is really nice to have such a long day, I must admit ( Read more... )

I think it's absolutely hilarious, my favourite Coen brothers film. (I had seen it twice already, I don't buy films I don't know and love.)

Jeff Bridges is great of course, and John Goodman is soooo funny! And John Turturro, and, and, and... :D :D :D

Oh, I hope your reintegration into the working classes doesn't deprive us of your charming presence.

Thank you for the compliment! But don't worry dear, the pointlessness of this 'reintegration process' lies in the fact that they have absolutely nothing to offer us. They know full well that it has been very difficult to find work for a couple of years now, but of course they cannot tell us that. So instead, all they can say is that we have to accept 'fitting' work - "and, you know, that might mean a job at McDonald's", as this 20-year-old said to a neighbour/friend of mine, who happens to be 55. Yeah, right. As if McDonald's would employ anybody over 16. So my friend retorted, "if you can get me a job at McDonald's, well, bully for you, girl!" I hope when I'm subjected to insulting remarks like that tomorrow, I will be as quick-witted as she is. Not my strong point, I'm afraid. *sigh*

My written remarks are always better than my spoken ones, I'm shyness personified.
I hope you meet nice people, not coarse individuals, querida.

Thank you, ma chérie!

Bonne nuit, and have pleasant dreams, like I do (I hope).

Jeff Bridges, along with John Malkovich, is one of my top favorite actors. Always amazing, and it doesn't hurt that the guy is fantastic looking. I'm still fond of Starman, haven't seen that for a while, might rent it. I remember when I first saw that film I cried when the deer came back to life.

Read the posts and had a laugh about the McDonald's stuff. I was in London when a new McDonald's opened, forget which street but it was a mob scene. Idiot me wanted to wait in line (WHY????). Instead, we had lunch at Wimpy's. LOL!

Yes, gotta love Jeff Bridges! I haven't seen Starman, the only films that spring to mind apart from The Big L. are The Fisher King, Fearless and The Jagged Edge.

LOL @ waiting in line for McDonald's! I much preferred Wimpy's. They've been gone for ages, I wonder, did McD. kill them off?

Starman is worth seeing if only for the wonderful shot of Mr. Bridge's butt. Fearless was excellent, I love that one.

I think Wimpy's faded away into obscurity.

The oddest McD's I've been in was in Whyalla (Australia) because a standard topping on a burger there was a slice of cooked beet. I'd never heard of that before. Tasted okay, but then I like beets.

Ooh, ooh! Yummy! I'm going to have some sweet dreams tonight! And of course will definitely look out for Starman now I know this!

Fearless was great. One of those films that give you a different outlook on life. But The Fisher King too, that one was weird but beautiful.

I must say I don't like beets, but I can totally see them being the topping on a burger. But then, I don't like burgers! :D

Did they blow at the same time? Spooky!

ROTFL @ your adventure! How do you get your unfortunate self into these situations, it's truly amazing! But don't feel dumb, you were able to get out of it all by yourself, which is no mean feat. I do hope you didn't catch cold though! Did you have a nice, hot bath to get warm again?
