Forgot to post this up last week, but the film and TV industry is suing internet service provider iiNet for 'permitting illegal downloading'. Basically the film and TV bodies can't be bothered

Oh gods, why is our government being dicks about this?

It has nothing to do with government; this is a private court action between companies in the private sector. The government can't do anything about it because it's in the courts domain; whatever happens will be up to how the federal court decides. The decision will be common law, which would stand unless appealed to the High Court which would either strike it down and send it back or uphold the decision. If the latter happens only then would a step in the legislate on the matter.
