Uhura Undershirt Info

Thanks to Joe of Anovos, I know whats up with the undershirt now. I can't believe I didn't think of this! I knew that the undershirt had to be sleeveless cause they would show otherwise, but I did not think of the undershirt being a body suit. It's a leotard! AHHHHH ( Read more... )

Just stumbled across this doing research for my own nutrek dress, and I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one this occurred to. Having already fought with putting snaps in the crotch of a leotard (almost more trouble than it was worth), I'm probably going to go with separates - a sleeveless turtleneck and something between boy-shorts and biker shorts for the bottom. Is it just me, though, or does Kirk's shirt (the charcoal gray one he spends most of the movie in) look like it's made from something other than lycra? It just doesn't seem to drape the same way that the overshirt does.

I applaud you on your dye job. I'm afraid I'm not quite so devoted in my costume accuracy. May I ask, how did you do the binding of the sleeves to the body of the dress? I'm mostly a self taught sewer, and I've never used that technique before.

Hiya! Yes, Kirk's shirt is definitely different fabric. The swatches have identified it as a wooly knit not cotton lycra. You can read more about that at Laughing Magpie's journal here: http://magpies-trek.livejournal.com/7067.html. She has a great Trek 09 costume study there. Very invaluable. I also recommend the Starfleet 1701st: http://starfleet1701st.yuku.com/... )

Thanks for the links. I actually have a whole boatload of lycra bits from the last project to practice on, so I should be okay there. ^_^

As for the dying, I was actually referring to the pattern on the red fabric. I actually do have a fabric that approximates the color of the red shirts - as much as any solid color can approximate a pattern like that.

You are very welcome!

Yes, a lot of people have just ignored the whole delta print thing cause it's hard to replicate. An idea that I considered was to buy the large Rubies shirts sold at costume stores and cut the fabric pieces out of them. Though you would probably have to buy several and may have to create some seams that aren't original to the costume.
