I watched the pilot of the Matthew Perry show when it premiered during the Olympics, and I thought it was okay. Not great, but it showed some promise. I've always really liked him, so I'm willing to give the show a chance. I also like Mindy Kaling, so I'm looking forward to seeing her show as well.
Last Resort looks completely crazypants, but also really entertaining! Also, that's an interesting cast. It seems like the kind of plot though that would be better suited for a miniseries.
The one returning show I'm looking forward to above all others is Homeland.
I am about to watch Matthew Perry and his pilot! I have so much residual love for Chandler that still, a handful of crappy movies and a few just plain bad TV shows later, Matthew Perry will still draw me to a new project. And it's especially strong right now because I just finished rewatching all ten seasons of Friends.
I hadn't even heard of Last Resort until I started looking at fall schedules, but that preview totally sold me on it at the very least being entertaining. And I think there's even a possibility that it will be good! I see what you're saying about the mini series, though, because I fear it could easily fall into Terra Nova territory - they start off with a nutso idea and then make it boring with petty dramas and nonsense storylines.
Homeland cannot return soon enough, it's been gone waaaaay too long.
Ha! I don't know what it is about Matthew Perry, but I feel the same way. I will watch him because it's him, no matter how bad it's likely to be! He's just so darn appealing.
Right? And this one I can actually see going somewhere. The setup is so much like Community (bunch of misfits find each other and can't help but like each other), but of course they don't have Dan Harmon there to make it amazing. I still see potential, though.
I was perusing my favorite TV schedule site earlier today and I noticed that if you clicked on the show name, it opened a page with all the info, including the videos. So I basically just cribbed it from there. *g*
I didn't really think about the site having evolved from the time when I started using it four years ago or something. Back then, they definitely didn't have the feature (I'm almost positive they didn't).
Also, if you're like me and have the page filtered, you're not going to see the new shows and won't have any links to click. The only reason I discovered it today was because I was checking on my work computer, which isn't filtered. So I saw all of the new network shows. And then when I came home I looked up a fall tv schedule (EW's) and added the shows to my filter so I could get to the links.
Of course, I'm almost positive I've heard something about AMC, HBO and/or Showtime shows that I want to check out, but they're not on the network tv schedules, so I guess I'll just have to let my flist remind me when they start airing.
So many shows I've never even heard of! Or I've heard of them, but hadn't taken the time to search out a trailer.
Definitely think I'm going to watch The Mindy Project (your feelings are almost exactly my feelings; I've always liked Mindy Kaling, but I've never felt all that strongly about Kelly as a character), Revolution (which looks like it will be interesting without being a total angst-fest) and Go On (I love me some Chandler Bing, and this looks like it will provide a good dose of both sad and funny.)
Another show I'm looking forward to that I didn't even know existed until my flist mentioned it is Ben and Kate:
Nashville I'll probably give a try as well, even though, ugh. Hayden Panawhatever. If Connie Britton wasn't in it, I wouldn't even bother.
I read the description for Ben and Kate and it didn't appeal to me at all, but maybe I should watch the preview before I write it off completely?
Revolution (which looks like it will be interesting without being a total angst-fest Yeah, this is what I'm most hopeful about when it comes to this show. Any dystopian show I can think of has just been about abject misery and that's not what I want from dystopian stories. I only hope they deliver.
I watched the pilot for Go On and I found it to be very Communityesque in its initial setup. Now they only have to live up to perfection! What can go wrong with that mindset I ask you?
Nashville has all the makings of both greatness and disaster. I tend to think it'll veer off into disaster, which is why I'm going to let others make my choice on this one. If other people like it, I'll try it. If they say it's a trainwreck, I'll back away slowly.
I'm definitely trying Revolution and Last Resort; I watch enough shows already, and am theoretically trying to cut down, so for anything else I'm waiting to see what my friends sell best. :)
I'm going to do what I usually do - try everything I think sounds interesting and then just let them fall by the wayside when I can't be bothered to keep up with them. Some years that leaves me with hardly any new shows. Last year was a surprisingly rich field because I'm still watching a bunch of them, but nowhere near as many as I tried out at the start of the season.
