This weekend I started listening to podcasts. I'm not sure why I've never tried it before, but I just haven't felt the urge to. And now I'm intrigued, but I feel completely lost in the sea of STUFF that's out there.

So, any recs? What I'd like to find are podcasts featuring geeks/fans/just people loving something in nerdy ways. Also, short techy/ ( Read more... )

The Nerdist! They have cool geeky people on there all the time, including much of the cast of Community, Joss Whedon shows, etc.

Others:

Freakonomics
Radiolab
The Moth
The Sound of Young America
Jordan Jesse Go

I'll check out The Nerdist, but it does seem to have the same problem as PCHH: too many dicks on the dance floor. If you'll forgive me that mental image.

You'd think there would be tons of fandom podcasts by now. It would basically just be audible LJ entries.

While it sounds like it's very close to what I'd want, the Slash Report is probably not right for me. I assume it's a lot of talk about subtext and whatnot, and I. Just. Don't. See. It. It's kind of sad how much of a puppet I often am at the hands of the writers.

The other two, however, sound fun! Especially the History one, I love random history trivia.

The host of the podcast used to be a mod at TWoP at the time when the mass migration to LiveJournal happened. This is probably something that comes mostly from being a Spike fan, but the way fans were treated in the Buffy forums put me off that site for life (and it was one of the major reasons why I got an LJ in the first place).

You and me both! My favorite part about it is how it's like a grown-up version of old school desks (granted I never had those desks in the States, but I did in Sweden, so the nostalgia factor is high).

Oooh, definitely tracking this post. I've been overdosing on podcasts lately, too, but I don't know where to start, and end up listening to a bunch of stuff that doesn't end up being that great. :p I like the Nerdist Writer's Panel a lot, they get 3-4 various TV and other professional writers each episode to talk about all things writing, which is right up my alley. I also like Doug Loves Movies a lot, because he has a ton of comedy people on all the time, but that one is very dude-centric. I'm interested to see what lady podcasts other people rec you!

Also, I use Pocket Casts and I adore it. Sorting and saving and playback are incredibly easy. I think I got it as the free app of the day on Amazon, though, so I'm not sure if there's a free version. But it's worth the money to me, I think.

I also tried How Was Your Week because someone mentioned it on PCHH. It's hosted by Julie Klausner, and I think I'm going to try one of the recent ones because I started with the first two and I was not a fan. However, the guy who recced them said that he hadn't enjoyed the first few shows and had quit and only recently returned to it, so I'm hoping for better things.

Interesting fact about me: I have never paid for an app. Ever. I guess there's a first for everything, but so far the app I'm using is working fine. I just have to figure out how to do stuff with it.
