itchy & scratchy

I've been reading (in most cases, re-reading) Buffy fic lately. There are plenty of fic tropes when it comes to Spike/Buffy fic, but I'm always surprised that two scenarios I find very interesting are in short supply. If they exist at all. ( Read more... )

fic: buffy, tv: buffy, ereader, books

I wrote a fic (Collateral Damage) with the second scenario, sort of. But it begins immediately post-Chosen, so Spike doesn't burn up and get trapped in the amulet - he's with Buffy when he discovers his soul is gone. Then they go see Angel.

Ah, that might be the one I was thinking of! It's...similar, but not exact, right? While I think soul removal would have been a much better way to explain away Spike not going to Buffy than the ghost thing, I'm kind of glad they didn't go that way. I don't even want to think about what the anti-Spike contingent would have had to say about that. In 'shipper friendly fic, though, I think it's an interesting avenue to explore.

I know what you mean about the anti-Spike contingent. The thing I wanted to explore, in part, was Spike's reaction to the loss of his soul as opposed to Angel/Angelus. My Spike was pissed off because he worked hard for that soul, dammit! ;-) I have no delusions that ME would have handled it the same way, but you never know. *g*

Huh -- on the Buffy/Spike thing, I know I've definitely read at least one fic that falls under the first scenario, though it was so long ago that I don't remember what fic it was! But at least SOME are out there, idk.

I think I've read meta on it, but not fic. Of course, that doesn't mean much seeing as how Buffy fic has no central archive. It's posted all over the place!

The second scenario sounds interesting and I'd love to read a story with that premise. The first one, not so much, mainly because my shipper heart doesn't like the idea his love for is fake.

I don't know that it has to mean that his love is fake. I think that the point would be that the idea may have been planted by the monks, but Spike, as always, goes above and beyond. I am thinking of Spike/Buffy fic, after all (I don't read any other fic when it comes to the Buffyverse).

I've been toying with touching on the first scenario in a fic I'm writing. But my take would be that merely messing with memories couldn't create the level of emotion Spike felt for Buffy, especially as he fought against it.

I haven't missed anything, have I? Because I can't remember anything like that in Pillow Talk (though it's been a while), so dare I hope you're writing something new? (Or is the the BSG crossover fic? I haven't been reading that, I'm not hugely interested in BSG fic.)

i didnt even think that there would be buffy fanfic... im obsessed with that show, always have been, and i just finished rewatching the whole seriously litterally yesterday. but idk if a fan fic of that would do justice in my book, but the whole spike being in love with buffy, would be interesting if it was because of the monks.

There's tons of fic for Buffy and Angel. Since it was the show that introduced me to fanfic, I think there's some pretty damn good fic, but then again, I'm mostly interested in 'shipper fic.
