So, apparently this is happening. Hmmm, I'm not quite sure what to think, because I doubt many - if any - shows will be able to regroup enough to be able to put out any more episodes this season anyway. And I know Bryan Fuller has already said that there probably wouldn't be more episodes even if the strike was resolved soon. But still, good news ( Read more... )

That article kept saying not to get excited BUT I CAN'T HELP IT. Eric Kripke just said in an interview last week that if the strike ends before Valentine's Day they'll probably get another three episodes done. !!! If absolutely nothing else Joss needs to get going on his new show so that it's all set and ready for next season. *g*

EARLY RELEASES. YES, PLEASE.

Irritated eyes due to shaky camera?

I have been stalking and loving all your new icons. The black Crichton one! The new Robin/Barney one! Super pretty!

OH PLEASE YES. I have a feeling it's too late for most of the big network shows, but if all we get are new episodes of Supernatural, I will still be selfishly grateful. *hopes*

I'm not sure how calculated a response that is, though. It might mostly be high hopes, and when it comes to actually getting it done who knows. Still, good to hear he's optimistic.

Granted, but I do think the CW has the most to gain by putting out new episodes, in that they only have one successful reality show and they might be able to capitalize on ratings if other shows weren't returning. And both Smallville and Supernatural would benefit plot-wise from being able to make even two or three new episodes. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Ohhhh, I hadn't heard the FNL DVD news, thank you!

Huh. Part of me wants to be excited that they're pushing out S2 so early -- does that mean they'll give it a S3? If they're just shitcanning it, why bother whipping out the DVDs?

Oh, the constant woe of loving a low-rated show.

I'm really surprised that I haven't even heard a whisper about it considering I have several HUUUUGE FNL fans on my flist. The news came out several days ago, I thought fandom was on top of stuff like this!

I think any great TV love produces that anxiety. Of course, I'm not sure it's possible to be that invested in a show that does get great ratings. I think you need that sense of impending doom to really appreciate what you've got. And isn't that a depressing thought? ;-)

My finger's nowhere near the pulse, so thanks for the news. At least you're on top of these things! :)

Heh. That's an interesting notion! Right now, I think Lost is my only TV love that I don't have to worry about at all. And I don't think Dexter is going anywhere.

My finger's not exactly pulse-adjacent either, but I do have the TVShowsonDVD.com feed on my flist. It helps a DVD-holic like myself keep track.

You're right, I've never really worried about Dexter either, but then again, my investment on the show centers around Deb more than the show itself (though I enjoy the rest as well. Season 2 more so than season 1, actually).

I wish I could say I was more excited about the FNL release but it does make me more hopeful about an early release for its co-NBC pal Chuck and a certain other guilty pleasure vampire show on another network. *fingers X'ed*

Well, for me it's all about the hope of other shows coming out earlier, because you know they all want to be where the market is, and if people do buy this early on, they might reconsider their release schedules, possibly planning the DVDs throughout the season instead of at the end. And, I think it could be one last ditch attempt for FNL to stay on the air. I just read some comments by the NBC president that basically spelled out how the show was finished, but if the DVDs sell well, anything could happen.

I'm sad to say that this whole experience with the writer's strike has me so jaded that I was unable to feel even the slightest leap of hope when reading that an end may be in sight. It's just such a shame when I think of all the great television that was interrupted in its prime and that the rest of this season has effectively been squandered away. Had the value and importance of the writers been realized sooner, this could all had been avoided, and I think that's the real rub in this whole situation. It didn't have the happen *Sigh* As you said, here's hoping we may at least see some early releases (Pushing Daisies would be a dream!)

Looking on the brighter side of things, I guess I can be thankful that this hiatus has allowed me to explore shows I may otherwise have not had the time or inclination to take a look at. I just bought Season 1 and 2 of Dead Like Me on DVD, as well as Season 1 of The X-Files (Why yes, I had been living under a rock up until this point and time, and had never seen the show) Had my regular programming ( ... )

I really haven't felt very disillusioned with the strike, but I think a lot of that is because I'm not really fannishly devoted to anything right now, so I'm just as happy revisiting some old obsessions this spring.

I do think that the tide is turning, and the networks/AMPTP is starting to come out looking like the bad guys in all this, and though I doubt they care about their image, they do care about the bottom line, and this image problem they're developing is threatening that, possibly even more than higher residuals for the writers ever could. So in that way I'm hopeful. Not confident by any means, but hopeful.

Movies
Little Voice

The West Wing
7x14 - Two Weeks Out
7x15 - Welcome to Wherever You Are
7x16 - Election Day Pt. I
7x17 - Election Day Pt. II*

Well this is all good news. Thank you.

And a friend of mine in the business indicated to me that the strike talks are not going anywhere near as well as the rumors would have you believe, so I hope she's wrong. :(

I just finished capping Transition. SAAAAAM! *loves*

While I'm more hopeful than I have been in a while (mostly because there's talking at all, I'm by no means counting on anything happening. I do think the AMPTP miscalculated and never realized how bad they would come out looking in this whole thing and that that may drive them to deal more fairly than they did early on, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Still keeping my fingers crossed...
