I can't believe the freak-out that occured about the VM move yesterday. I can totally understand those that were upset that they couldn't watch both VM and Lost live next year (well, actually that's a bit of a fib because I can't imagine ever preferring Lost to VM), but the people saying that UPN wanted to kill the show? Not even close to my ( Read more... )

I think almost all people freaking out are those that watch both Lost and VM, and now they'll have to choose. Something which... well, I'm paralyzed with not caring very much. ;)

I've argued this enough in the comments to my last post yesterday, but really. UPN changed VM to THE best spot in their primetime programming. And I doubt they suddenly think VM can compete against any of the Top 20 shows. It's gonna compete with the *new* shows no one knows anything about.

It needs to be on an icons, a t-shirt or possibly tattooed across my forehead.

Yeah, I think it's the choosing thing too, but I hate to break it to them, they're most likely the very people VM isn't trying to grab with this move.

What really bothered me was people saying UPN was trying to kill the show (and I saw at least five posts to that effect and a TV Guide article) when they gave the show its best slot. Just because there are other, more popular, shows on against it, that doesn't mean a thing. That's true for every timeslot out there!

You're absolutely right. They're trying to maintain ANTM's audience, they're not trying to make anyone change channels.

Of course, in my mind it's absolutely clear that Lost and VM have different audiences, because Lost = stupid, VM = smart. ;)

I saw those too and... well, I snorted. A lot. Everytime we hear UPN say *anything* about VM it shows that they're as in love with the show as we are. And they gave it THE BEST TIMESLOT THEY HAD. Argh. I actually have a lot of respect for UPN now, because they're following the same policy the WB has adopted before with their low-ratings show: you keep it on the air to build an audience, not to have a ratings explosion all of a sudden. Which is sane and rational and *right*.

And TV Guide is stupid. :)

I never realised how worried I was about VM not being picked up for a 3rd Season until some other random show was picked up for two seasons instead of one. Ew. Will pretend that the possibility of cancellation does not still hang in the air for next year.

I always, always say I won't want any of the new shows and every year I get proved wrong by the show I say the most shit about before watching. Par example? VM. So we shall see...

I think that VM was pretty much given a reprieve this season, surfing along on the goodwill of the critics and the network. But if there's no ratings improvement I think they just might cancel it. And that's what has me really worried, not that it's up against Lost. Because whatever timeslot they put it in it's going to be up against something that's more popular. Giving it the timeslot after their biggest hit? Shows that they care about the show.

I think that apart from House I've given up every other new show this year except for VM. I'm still watching Desperate Housewives, but that's because I only recently became disillusioned with it when I realized the creators didn't have the same vision of the show as I did. Now I just want the finale to air already so I can be done with it.

I got so much crap from people about not watching Desperate Housewives because I was watching America's Next Top Model on another channel at the time.

We're all just going to have to kick up a notch on our WATCH DAMMIT scale for the new season!

I enjoyed the show basically for one character and I had this perfect vision of her in my mind...and then the writers went and screwed with that vision and she instantly became a big bore instead of the interesting multi-faceted character she could have been.

I've done so many picspams and offerings of episodes to get people to watch (and I've probably hooked like 20 people on my flist), so I don't know if I have it in me to kick off another campaign. Maybe when fall rolls around I'll have more incentive.

I can understand the freakout too, but I guess given that a lot of my favorite shows were granted second chances (TAR was in danger of cancellation after season 2, and now it's confirmed for seasons 8 and 9, and Family Guy got cancelled but was brought back), I'm remaining cautiously optimistic.

Really, TAR was almost cancelled? Did not know that. I'm glad the network decided to give it a chance.

It's funny, because even though a few shows I watched have been cancelled (JoA, DLM) I'm still ecstatic because the only shows I really really care about (VM and Arrested Development) were renewed. With those two shows on I don't think I even need any other shows. ;-)

*nods* TAR actually had HORRIBLE ratings until it started picking up around season 4, which is the season that got the show its first Emmy.

And I'm actually surprised, since every show I watch right now has been renewed. Going to make for a busy autumn :P

Huh, and I actually like the earlier seasons the best. Though I have a certain fondness for 5 and 7. 6? Almost made me quit watching.
