Gabriel was pushing his way through the crowd, trying his best to push any thoughts of Malcolm from his mind. He had seen the other boy's latest post, and no matter how much he might have had a small pang of hope, he knew without a doubt that it couldn't have anything to do with him.

Besides, he'd heard rumors already that Terry Boot had returned, and even though he never cared before, he couldn't help but continually hear Malcolm's name mentioned anytime Terry's was.

Shoving his bag further over his shoulder as he walked along the side of the corridor - trying to avoid the other students - he stopped just short of tripping over a pair of bent legs that he hadn't noticed until then.

When he started to say something more, he lost the words before they formed, and he closed his mouth again having said nothing at all.

Jaden sharply looked up from his work at the sound of someone addressing him, and he blinked a few times, trying to get his mind back in the right place. Hallway. People. Right.

"Oh, erm...no, my fault...sorry," he muttered, moving back further against the wall and starting to gather his things so he could get out of her way.

He looked up at the boy above him again, catching his gaze for a moment before looking back down again, feeling slightly embarassed for a reason he couldn't really name.

"Don't- you don't-" he started, feeling guilty that he had made the older boy want to move when he had clearly been working on something before Gabe had stumbled toward him.

Say something.

"I didn't mean to- you shouldn't stop," he managed, giving him an apologetic glance before folding his lips together in a nervous habit.

"No, it's fine," Jaden replied quickly stuffing his half opened pencil set back in his messenger bag. "I'm- I'm sort of in the way."

He carefully folded his sketchbook, not wanting to smear the pastel touches he had added for emphasis.
