I depend on myself to provide warmth, a feeling of security or safety, and trust my own senses to alert me to game-playing or deception/lying by others. Since I am not looking to others to provide warmth and safety, they cannot use withholding these as a lever to manipulate me. If I feel physically endangered, I leave. If someone physically attacks me, I am free to fight back and protect myself - crude as that may sound
