I return to Chch from the gorgeous West Coast and since I don't have any photos of my own let us see what Google can do for picspamming my holiday!

I spent the last five days in a cabin at Lake Kaniere and did lots of writing and reading and drinking and playing hilarious late night charades.

We went down to Punakaiki and the blowholes for a day ( Read more... )

Welcome back! :D Those pictures are making me jealous, Canberra is nowhere near is scenic. Not unless you like roundabouts and bureaucrats.

Glad you guys had a great time! <3

Your icon just brought me joy ♥

I remember the roundabouts of Canberra from childhood visits! Not quite as visually impressive, no.

Jon is such a dork, I love him. ♥

Canberra roads are weird. And the road signs are very, very angry. Other states' road signs are just like "Drive safely! :)", but Canberra's actually leap out, grab you by the throat and scream, "DRINK. DRIVE. DIE IN A DITCH. DID YOU SEE HOW I JUST EMPHASISED DIE THERE?! THAT IS HOW DEAD YOU WILL BE IF YOU TOUCH THE BOOZE, BITCH. DON'T MAKE ME COME AFTER YOU. I HAVE CONTACTS IN THE GOVERNMENT, YOU KNOW."

The West Coast has the best scenery in the world. Late night charades is a rather special game, next time more wine should be involved!

The pedantic inside of me would just like to point out the errors in your post.

You did not stay in a cabin. You were in a bach, which is pronounced batch. If you were in Southland it would be called a crib.

You did not go down to Punakaiki, you went north so therefore you went up.

thus ends the message from the Pedantics Society.

I had to say 'cabin' because I didn't want to have to explain 'bach'. I could have also said 'lake house' and still have been correct other than for country linguist fluffing around! Cabin just translates to all languages for the bach though as 'lake house' makes me picture something super expensive with lots of glass. (Side note: does 'bach' relate to 'bachelor pad'?)

Punakaiki I'll give you though! Had no idea which way we went.

Oh alright I will let you away with your excuse of dumbing it down for your international peeps.

I do remember hearing an explanation on the orgins of the word bach but I can't remember and not quite arsed enough to google it ^_^

Wasn't Lake House a movie with Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves?
