Uninspired.

I feel that I am starting/continuing to suck at icon/graphic/artwork making. Lately I hate everything I do, and I don't like it. So I have a question to all icon makers on my f-list:
  • Where do you get your inspiration from?
  • How did you find you own style of making graphics?
  • Are there any tips&tricks to make icon/graphic look gorgeous?
  • Do you use ( Read more... )

Well I dont think there is an icon, banner or anything that you cant make beatuiful, when I make icons, my inspiration comes from people like my sister, you and jaje. Your stuff is so good that they inspire me to make my stuff better ( ... )

(: Well, of course; Everyone loves such nice feedback. Thank you.
I just really feel uninspired lately. I cand really agree with you about the colouring of the older stuff; i quite like some of the stuff. But I hate some of them, because the quality of the pictures/screencaps used were aweful. And I just made it worse by overblurring/oversharpening. Now I feel that I still haven't found the right technique to blur/sharpen.

Well, I suck at making icons and mine are rubbish and to me yours are amazing so, in my opinion, you do not suck. Honestly. You have such a talent, it's unbelievable. I have no inspiration because when I try to make icons and stuff, I lose interest because they look so rubbish ( ... )

Thanks, hun. Nice to hear that I don't suck THAT much :D But I still think I need inspiration. And, of course, I need/want to improve.
And yeah, I'd really like if you'd point out what you like or don't like (: So see you on MSN :D

it's always what tugs at you - i like the simplistic, so simplistic is what I do. Other than that, I steal inspiration by raiding through artists journals and snagging what I like, making a big collage, and seeing why it's cool.

Tricks: Use levels (ctrl + M in photoshop) to add instant awesomeness of contrast and sharpness to a picture.

By and large, I do rather quite like your iconning, although, perhaps at times you could use a better quality base image. You do remarkable colour and gradient changes, you should fidget more with glamming up faces and the like - it'll make for even awesomer pics.

hope it helps.

Thanks for you opinion; it really helps.
I guess I really have to look through the LJ and find inspiration in the other peoples' art. And I have to improve my bases. I just don't know how yet. (:

ah it just happens.
it is just normal that you have inspiration loss from time to time, cuz if you make icons on a daily basis, you have to pull back a little some time...
besides.. it cant be that bad. you haven`t lost your skill. you just cant think of anything new...
then don`t do anything new. thats what i do.
i just continue making icons, even though they may look the same-that doesn`t matter. at one point i get a great picture or a great brush or smth and then i have the urge to make more and thats how to get your inspiration back...

i think that you`ve just gotten into the simples iconmaker routine. :) it`s going to be fine..
take a break from icons a bit. or try to do something else. find icons you like the best and try to re-make them with another picture adding a little bit of you in them... for example. I donno. you`re creative. you`ll think of something eventually.. ^___^

I wish I could find my own icon-making style, 'couse right now I think I just go with the flow and make stuff similar to all other peoples' stuff. I hate that.
Oh, and I really like the idea of re-making icons; may'be that will help to learn some new tricks.
Thanks (:

Your artwork is amazing Val. You are one of my inspirations along with Denise. When I first started using LJ, I wanted a header of Chester and after seeing what you could do I went to you before even considering anyone else. I just recently got Photoshop and have been trying to learn it so I can be as good as you are.

I know I don't comment very often but I do love every single thing you make. I only wish I was as good as you are.
