It's a long way to the top

I have a question for all of them. It's rhetorical. Why live your life if you don't like what you're doing? I've heard it a lot from kids majoring in colleges other than Fine Arts. You know what I mean, you're having small talk with the person behind you in line, or next to you in the theater, and when you ask "What's your major?" the response is a ( Read more... )

but what if you're a performing major and you don't know if you like what you're doing? if you think you might not like it?

I guess I was being too specific in talking about performing majors compared to other majors. I meant it in a more general way. It works completely the same way, though. If you're a performing major and you don't like it, maybe you'll find what you like in Health Science, by helping people. Or maybe you don't want that degree in Art any more because you'd like to be an elementary school teacher. It's just, being a music major I mainly notice when people who love the stage or love music get tied down into Dentistry because they're afraid of taking the riskier route.

And aren't you a theater major? I don't know, but I'm smelling some self-doubt in your choice of words. Just so you know, I think you're one of the best actors out there!

some self-doubt? that's an understatement...i don't know. i feel like i'm not doing anything in school as a theatre major. i've auditioned for two plays, nothing. i think it's just a phase. i just need some time, i guess, to adjust to being a freshman again.
