Ok, been going computer shopping online so I can get ready for when my tax return comes in (still don't know how much I'm getting back ... fecking W2 hasn't arrived yet!). I know Dell is the best, but once I pick a Dell with a dvd/cd burner the price is out the ass and would probably take my whole tax refund and I need to pay off my credit card ( Read more... )

chrissy - avoid e-machines. they're alright computers, but they don't last forever (i got 2 yrs from mine before the motherboard went) and they're difficult to upgrade (like - if you want decent sound/video and put cards in, sometimes they spazz)

dont know how to help you other than avoid HP too - two friends with their compys that are pieces o' crapness.

if you're going to go for a desktop, maybe look at having someone help you build one? (if i could go help you, i'd help you build it myself!!) i did that with this compy and saved tons of money.

I found this really good HP and I'm extremely tempted to get it. here. My Dell that I want comes out to $603.76, but that's with the $99 off for it being over $500 and $50 off for something else (forgot what). So with those added it's $752. :'(

My parents are getting that HP too, do I guess I'll just poke around at theirs and see how it goes.

I would build one, if I had a first clue about them. I wouldn't know where to start.

Yes, avoid HPs. You know how much trouble I had with my last HP and the HP I had before that wasn't any better. I've had 3 computers since August of 2002 because of those two shitty HPs. But I've had this Dell laptop since November and have had no problem so I think Dell is the way to go. *pats her Dell*

I'd get it without hesitation if I could get Dell Credit but I can't. So having to pay all that in full sucks ... which explains why I'm thinking of getting this. ... I hate having less than perfect credit.

MESSAGE TO EVERYONE: DO NOT GET CREDIT CARDS. THEY RUIN LIVES!!!!

hmm I'll check them out, but I have a Dell now and I love it ... I just hate that it doesn't have a cd burner/dvd-rom. That's the only reason I'm buying a newer one lol.

yes yes. I found 4 of them on WinMX (download the program at winmx.com if you don't have it ... best one out thereeee), do a search for either 'Smallville Unsafe' or 'Smallville Season 4 Episode 11 Unsafe.avi' and there ye go :-D

Yeah. Sucks about the basketball. I heard most stations were running it this weekend because of the games. Have you checked your local listings?

I would not suggest an eMachine. That's what Keith has and it's caused him nothing but trouble.

Personally, I would go ahead and get the Dell. Pay off as much as you can and spend the rest on your credit card. The payments each month are low, and if you pay $10 - $15 over the recommended amount, you should be able to get it paid off fairly quickly. My machine, loaded, cost $1500 and I'm down to $300 in a year.

poo. I've applied for the monthly payment option for Dell and I can't get approved because of my bloody credit card :/ So if I get on, it'll have to be in full.

Mum told me today that since I only made about $8000 last year that I would probably qualify to get an extra $200 back on my return so I'm hoping I do. I may just call the credit card company and tell them that I just want to finish doing the $100 plan and not pay it in full. I'll just have to see.

Yeah I had to use my mom's credit for that. But since I've been paying it, there's no problem. I couldn't get one on my own either. :( I had forgotten about that.

Hope you can get something worked out! ^_^

I just used my Dad's credit for a new car and Mum's for a cell phone ... don't know if they'd go for a computer too. :'(
