Lots o’news this week so let’s roll up our sleeves and dive in!
We all may have heard of Sin Nombre, a film directed by Cary Fukunaga (with whom there’s
an interview at Electric Sheep). Why’s this significant?
It’s being executive produced by Gael and Diego!
To check out the trailer, Empire has it and UK’s
the Times has an article about the project. The boys are even mentioned in the article:The involvement of the Mexican stars Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna as executive producers helped to bring credibility to the project. “It was a good introduction. Gael was like, ‘call me if you need anything’. Fortunately I never needed to make the call. I kept waiting for things to go bad. The only thing that happened was our extras casting director got held up on set. She was paying them in cash and so on payday someone was smart enough to work out that there was probably about $10,000 in cash there. So that got stolen. Come on. We were in the hood. You don’t go to the hood with $10,000 in cash. That same location a bullet flew overhead once. I heard it but I didn’t tell anyone.”
There was also another mention in conjunction with Sin Nombre from The National Newspaper:It was produced by Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna, among others. It is set to be released internationally over the summer.
And while we’re on the subject of mentions in other articles,
Diego was mentioned in an Buenos Aires Herald article. From the article:Given the current scenario and the cost of creating works of fiction, producers resort to product placement and international sales to make their product commercially feasible. Is this the case with Rosstoc?
We coproduced Todos contra Juan with Fox, which allowed us to sell it internationally: the format was purchased by companies from Chile, Canada, the US, Italy, and Spain. Diego Luna is set to star in the Mexican version. Our canned version was broadcast on DirecTV satellite television, and it will be broadcast all over Latin America.
(This seems to be a possible interview question; the article itself is an interview - it was difficult to work out the question from the response).
Variety’s got an article speaking of Canana Films and how it’s pioneering a new distribution model in Mexico. Diego’s mentioned due to his involvement with the company.
And
according to the Playlist, the directorial side of Diego is back! In this instance, he’s working on a fiction film called Abel and is looking set for a 2010 release. And
at a blog written by Regina Montemayor, there’s a mention of Abel. I’s written in Spanish and seems to mention that Diego will be working on Abel.
Cinemanila is opening its doors again and guess who’s among those attending?
According to PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal),
Diego’s among the guests. This was confirmed by
The Showbiz Insider and
The Inquirer (based in the Phillippines).
And now for a small bit of fluff, Who’s Dated Who.com has a six degrees of separation involving Diego.
They showed how many degrees of separation Diego has from Lindsay Lohan through his dating past.
