The downtown L.A. soap box derby was very cool! Think they got a larger crowd than expected, though. There were places where signage/directions were unclear or missing altogether. Between the crush of people and the high temperatures, it got a little scary, so I bailed on watching at trackside and retreated to Pershing Square Park, where they had ( Read more... )

Sounds like fun, but I'm not sure how I would have dealt with the heat/crowds.

I didn't go (stayed home and practiced guitar, which is shocking if you have any idea of my normal practice regimen). _darkvictory was going out anyway, and decided she'd give it a try. In a way, from her description, if we'd followed our original plan, it would have been difficult. Better planning for next year will be necessary.

Overwhelming, and I LIKE crowds. Our original plan would have been a disaster, since the worst crush was right where we planned to meet and it would have been very hard to move anywhere else. There appeared to be crowd control for about half as many people as showed up.

Only in LA... the wildest competition we have here is the Mud-Belly-Flop contest up in Hootin' Holler. And the 'crush' would just be oversized bodies!
