I see what you mean about Abre Los Ojos... I think I got so absorbed in waiting to see what happened next that I didn't pay as much attention to the other aspects of the movie.
I really liked "Mar Adentro", too. Have you seen "talk to her" (Habla con Ella)? Same kind of idea, people paralyzed by an illness, but v. differently expressed. If you have, I'd be interested in knowing what you thought of it... =)
I absolutely adore Gael as well. :) I suggest The Motorcycle Diaries. :) That's a good one and despite its highly politicized protagonist, the movie is surprisingly unpolitical.
Is Maria Llena de Gracia the same as "Maria Full of Grace"? Good grief, I'm so bad with the original titles of foreign films. :P Anyway, I haven't finished it yet, but from what I saw, its pretty interesting.

i would also reccomend 'habla con ella', and 'mar adentro'. both are sad but touching.
