My computer died a spectacular death today. I was about to watch the latest episode of Legend of the Seeker when the screen went white and I couldn't do anything anymore. I managed to turn the computer off, but it wouldn't turn on again ( Read more... )

It's a very sad thing! :-( It seems I'm going to get a new computer earlier than I thought. Let's see how working with Win7 is going to go after XP. (I'm too stupid for Linux and a Mac is just too expensive.)

I always make a backup once a week! Too many crashes and lost data in the past! :-D

So far, Win 7 isn't looking too bad, I guess, but it's a step backwards in security since Vista, which means it pays to be careful when using it (viruses)

Aw, you learned the hard way :((( My.. clients never believe me when I tell them how important backups are *sigh* Maybe I should bring you along to describe your experiences!

I'm always careful when it comes to security. I don't know how successful I am, but I try my best not to catch anything bad. At the moment I'm more concerned whether or not most of the programs will run under Win7.

It helped that I found a decent backup program that makes backups relatively easy. And I've got a "Erinnerungsfunktion" in my cell phone so that I won't forget ;-).

Oh noes!!!! That's awful. I'm glad you've at least got back ups though. It would be worse if you lost everything.

Hope you get a new and better computer soon.

Yeah, I can't imagine losing all the files and emails and stuff. I still lost a bit, but it's a bit easier to recover files and emails from the last two days instead of the last six months or something.

I hope so, too! But I'm not looking forward to setting up a new computer just the way I want it to. It'll take some time. :-/
