Indeed! Happy endings rock socks! As much as I'm an angst h00r, I cannot resist the happy ending when I get a chance to write one. Which is actually fairly often, lately. Gotta love The Hobbit. It lends itself so well to happier AU endings.
This is a scene filled with love and some apprehension on the part of your characters, both hoping so fervently that they will be able to fulfill their allotted roles as they would wish, both on an adventure quite unlike anything they've experienced before. It's charming and warm and young Frerin will clearly be cherished...and probably spoilt quite a lot.

Indeed. They're both apprehensive and anticipatory. Parenthood is a scary, wonderful journey . . . she says as if she's ever taken such a journey, lol.

Thank you! I like the idea of Bilbo bringing warmth and homeyness to Thorin's life. Bringing him the chance to be, in his off hours, at least, a regular husband and father. At least, as regular as they can be, considering.

Spoilt, yes, by some (including elves who make state visits, such as Elrond and Galadriel--notably not Thranduil). But he and Bilbo won't always be treated so kindly by dwarves. It's something Bilbo tries to ignore, and will try to shield Frerin from as best he can, but it does come to a head a couple
