This shows how young Fili is, too, despite his big brother status. I find his grumpy protectiveness believable; and I think he'd be worse about it than Thorin. That's HIS little brother, "Kili's business IS my business!" I laughed when he took a literal shovel out there with him to find out what was going on. (The line about bringing their own fun cracked me up, too, because they sure did. :D)
I LOVE Bofur, how considerate he is, how he knows that since he's Kili's first (and hopefully only), he'll be the one to shape much about how Kili regards sex, romance, and relationships, and takes it responsibly. I love the indications of how gone he is on Kili, too; I don't think Kili really realizes just how deep Bofur's feelings are running.
I like how Kili is maturing. He's still a bit blushy but not shy about what he wants, he's willing to ask, to talk it over, and to listen. He's such a sweetheart, I always want to hug him when he calls Bilbo "Mr Boggins" and when his face falls over Thorin's scolding. IT'S RIDICULOUS.

I wholeheartedly concur! I think Fili's going to be much worse about this than Thorin will be. I think Thorin will be gruff and uncomfortable, but basically okay with whatever choice Fili makes because Bofur's proved himself loyal, brave, and good in a battle-never mind the class and age differences. Plus, Thorin's got his own affair to worry about. I think there's even more of an age difference between Thorin and Bilbo than Bofur and Kili. Greater class difference-what with Bilbo not being a Dwarf-also.

It's a good point about how Thorin being involved with Bilbo would impact how he reacts to Kili and Bofur. I think if anyone is choosing a port in a storm, it would be those two-not that they don't care for each other, but long term, it's hard to see them together. So Thorin might be all for letting Kili and Bofur have what they may while they can.
I think it's going to be difficult for both Fili and Kili to adjust, because they're used to being together all the time, each other's best friend as well as a brother.
The line about "as the young man I wish to..." makes me wonder if Bofur is thinking marriage? I'm looking at the chapter title and thinking it's a nice reference to his intentions towards Kili, lol.

Exacly! And I rather think, at least in this 'verse, Thorin's feelings for Bilbo are stronger than even Thorin thinks. He's falling for Bilbo quietly, and without really noticing. Bilbo, however, is already far gone, and he knows it, and doesn't really try to fight it. He knows whatever he and Thorin have won't last, so his philosophy is to hold onto it for as long as he can, and wring as much happiness out of it as he can. Although I will say, in Thorin's case, seeing his nephew hook up with someone who may be unsuitable in the long-term, has given him pause about his relationship with Bilbo. Pause to wonder what will become of it, and what his own intentions are toward Bilbo. I sense

Fili was so much fun to write for this piece, lol. And I had to throw in the Shovel Speech. Tradition demanded it.
And yeah, Kili wants what he wants, when he wants it, and Bofur's trying very hard to resist him. But Kili knows what he wants, now, and he's on a mission to get it. Bofur's going to have to step up his resistance game if he's going to preserve Kili's virginity.
First off the literal shovel talk joke made me laugh out loud. Brilliant humor. The stages of Fili realizing then coming to terms with his brother's new relationship was believable and adorable. Bofur is so sweet and well intentioned. Love it.
Fili's cool, now. But when Kili starts spending more and more time with BOfur . . . . well, the green-eyed monster will rear its braided head. And Bofur is the awesomest of all the Dwarfs, to my way of thinking.. And in this 'verse, he's got Kili's best interests at heart.
Thanks! I've been meaning to update it, but I got caught up in the HP/BtVS crossover I'm working on. THat thing has consumed me, body and soul, lol. But hopefully the Muse'll come up with some more Bilbo/Thorin or Bofur/Kili. I miss writing them, already. They're so much fun :D
Oh my lord - I am loving your Bofur/Kili stuff!! You're KILLING me, please write more soon!! So divine...I'm dying for the actual proposal, I think, and more of Kili trying to coax Bofur into GOING ALL THE WAY, lol!! Terrific work!
Thank you! Kili is going to be pretty tireless. And I don't know that the proposal would happen before they retake Erebor. Bofur's waiting till he's made his fortune before proposing. I may have to skip ahead, timeline-wise. . . .
