Hi Shani; Thank you for creating this community. I have never heard of depersonalization or derealization. They don't sound like names for any mental illness that I know of. You are not old enough to make these dx on yourself. It does sound like you could have at least 1 or 2 or 3 mental illnesses tho. Do you SI (self injury), etc as in borderline personality disorder.? Maybe you have DID altho that is very hard and rare to dx as well. One has to get to know you over a period of time to come to a proper dx. Any of us with mental illness can disassociate. That is just a symptom. When my bf and I broke up almost 2 yrs ago; I disassociate for 10 days; I have no idea/memory of what happened in those days. And when I did "come to" I started SIing which put me in a psych ward for 2 weeks and my BPD diagnosed; and I'm in my late 40s. Before that, I hadn't SIed in 7 yrs. I also have dystemic depression and fibromyalgia. 3 kids and 1 grandkid. I too am on wellbutrin with prozac and seroquel (sleep

Kathy-
i know what mental illnesses i have, i don't have boarderline personalality disorder, nor DID.
Depersonalization Disorder is a disorder, not just a symptom, even though it CAN be a symptom of some other disorders (schizophernia, bipolar disorder, etc). DP disorder is rare, as a disorder, but common as a symptom.
i also have Derealization, but not as severe as DP. i was diagnosed with both of these by both a psychotherapist and a therapist.
i was also on seroquel, which made me extremely sick, and helped me about as much as rispiridal (in other words, it didn't help).

hi again; Thanks for replying so quick. I have since done a quick search on it. You said you were 16, right? What are your therapists doing to help you get better and can you get better? If you haen't seen any real change yet on wellbutrin, you should ask to up the dose or put togheter with prozac or even try another med, like effexor. It takes trial and error to find the right meds to work on everybody. I knew when I was 14 and started to "cut". Saw my first shrink, and many more over the yrs. But i wasn't properly dx until my 40s What was your childhood like? Do you have siblings?
kathy
Me, I was abused as a child, and I have 3 other siblings, of whom only 1 (eldest) was abused besides me.

kathy:
i have noticed a very very nice change on the wellbutrin, and i couldn't up the dose of it anyway, i'm on 300 mL, and if i was on anymore, i would be at a very high risk of a sezuire.
my therapists haven't done anything to help me get better, and i understand that i need to get better on my own, and i plan on no longer seeing my regular shrink.
i have an older brother (20) who i am extremely close with, a stepsister and stepbrother, who did abuse me once when i was 9.
i had a wonderful childhood nonetheless, i went to one of the best schools in the northeast, and a wonderful mother and brother.
