Alia, I always get such a shock when I see your old drawings (and new ones too!!) because they are just SO GOOD. Your first sketch-book is full of stuff that should be CD cover-art and t-shirt designs... it all looks very professional and skillfully crafted. I hope yuo'll do more drawing from now on :)
I should really draw more. I agree. And for me really, as you probably know from your own drawings, these are like records of thoughts and feelings of very particular moments in time.
The first book = when I fell in love with scott... so um yeah. I could pretty much tell you where I was and what I was thinking with each drawing.
The last book is more mechanical and doesn't hold as much loaded images for me, but in a way it was kind of a period where I was spending much more time in paintings, sculptures, and printmaking... so the important stuff was really starting to be recorded elsewhere in different formats.
I'm currently looking for a nice datebook for 2007 that will be good to draw in... this way I will have a format to work more in a weekly/monthly format again... I want to make a complete book. This is a goal of mine.
The datebook sounds like a great idea :) And I definitely know what you mean about the drawings being a recording of a period of time. I've kept visual diaries for years (so I record a lot of the thought processes behind the ideas, too) and they all mean so much to me, I can see myself grow and change :) It's really special.
