Part 7 - disclaimer applies as per freakin usual. Dammit.

This one is kinda short, I'm afraid...but you can have more later...maybe... :P

Jess’s POV

Well…I don’t believe him. Bam. I don’t believe he doesn’t care about them moving out, I don’t believe he could turn his back on them. I know what they did sucks, but… God. I hate to be like Mr. Fix-it but I need to do something, right? I mean, as the one who is kind of stuck in the middle, between my family and my best friends I’m the only one who has the ability to change things. Right? Oh fuck it, I’m gonna try anyways. After dinner of course…

April seems to have been worn out by her day with her grandson. She even ordered Chinese for dinner. And it’s always funny to watch Vito use chopsticks. Yeah, Vito’s here and though he’s pretending like he’s not dying to see Sami, he’s looking towards the living room door every time there’s the slightest noise, eying up the pile of Sami’s toys in the corner, asking questions like ‘they been up there long?’ ‘they coming down anytime soon so we can eat?’ even though dinner’s not arrived yet.

It arrives eventually. It’s actually kind of late so we get a discount. Anyway, Vito’s first on his feet heading to the stairs to give the ‘dinner!’ shout. It’s weird not to hear the stampede of feet towards the dining room. Just two sets of slow footsteps and a little whining. They walk into the dining room, Sami in Ville’s arms, rubbing his eyes and still whining a little. Bam and Ville look…different. They’re acting different too. Like…they’re not as stressed looking as they were this morning but they’re not their usual selves either. They look a bit like they’re trying to be like their usual selves though. Trying to make everything go back to normal. I dunno. Anyway, Vito’s not too busy inhaling his food that he doesn’t manage to fuss around Sami. Sami adores him. I dunno why. That sounds mean, but I don’t. Vito scares me.

After dinner Ville and Bam sit with us in the living room. That’s not like them, even when everything’s all happy and tra-la-la, they usually disappear. Go fuck or something, I don’t know. It’s nice, them being there, but it makes me feel a bit weird. Like they’re trying to spend a lot of time with us now because they’re not planning on coming back anytime soon. Guess now would be a good time to go talk to my friends, right?

Now…now it’s not even about saving friendships. Now its about saving my family.

Ville’s POV

It is hard, sitting here; pretending like everything’s fine, like our bags aren’t packed and we haven’t booked tickets home that leave at 11 am tomorrow morning. Hard to watch Sami play away with Vito in the corner of the room, to watch Phil laughing at something they’re doing, knowing that the next time we see them could be months…longer…away. Hard to be in the same room as April, knowing what she…saw earlier on. So fuckin embarrassed. Though Bam will be getting rewarded later for his saying that I had ‘absolutely fuckin nothing to be embarrassed about Vil. You’re beautiful. Every *kiss* single *kiss* little inch of you’ followed by a nice long kiss. And a pause. And then ‘in fact, I think she was impressed…’ Okay, he should be tickled til he pees himself for that last part but the first part was pretty nice so we’ll go with that.

“What?” he asks, oh so cute and puzzled and amused sounding at my staring at him.

“Nothing darling,”

Curled up on the couch, any couch, anywhere, with Bam is my absolute favorite thing in the world. Well, my favorite thing that we can do in public, anyway. It would be even better if Sami would come over here. I feel like I’ve hardly spent any time with him at all since I got here, what with it being so late when I arrived and him sleeping, and April taking him out for the day and him being asleep when he got back. Can’t order that kid about though, believe me. So I’ll just sit here and send him ‘get over here and talk to your Dada’ thought vibes.

Wow, never thought they would work. Maybe I was looking too desperate and he felt sorry for me. He kept glancing at us while he was with Vito, you see, like he was checking we were still here. Anyway, he comes trotting over with a fire truck in his hand and waits for me to lift him up onto my knee.

“What’s that sweetheart?”

“Fire truck.”

“Oh yeah? Where’d you get that?”

“Shop.”

“Yeah, course you did. Silly me,” I say while Bam giggles.

“Silly Dada,” Sami agrees with a nod of his head. Yeah, that deserves a tickle...

April’s POV

I guess the boys wore themselves out with that tickling game of theirs. It was cute. Like, really, really cute. Sami’s high pitched giggle, Ville’s deep laugh, Bam’s trademark sniggers as he watched and shrieks as a hand occasionally descended on his own stomach. Anyway, now Ville’s asleep with his head on Bam’s knee (with his head turned in towards Bam’s crotch, which I am totally going to ignore), Sami lying in a weird sort of way, half on and half off of the couch, Bam’s gaze flickering between the TV and his husband. He gives Ville’s side an experimental poke. Nothing happens.

He mumbles something about ‘damn lazy’ and ‘weighs a freaking ton’ as he sighs heavily. He looks tired too. I’m guessing he wants to go to bed but the husband asleep on top of him is posing a bit of a problem.

“Want a hand?” I ask, not entirely sure what I could actually do to help.

“Yeah…you take that one,” he says, nodding to Sami, “and I’ll get this one…”

I watch as he slips out from underneath Ville, puts an arm under Ville’s back and one under his knees and picks him up with a bit of a groan. We carry them up the stairs, me heading for Sami’s crib, Bam heading for his own room across the hall where I can hear him and Ville talking quietly as I change Sami into his pyjamas and get him settled down for the night. I hear the words ‘home’ and ‘all this drama and shit’ and ‘tomorrow’ and hope they’re not planning what I think they are…
