Chapter 1/?

Ville sighed as he looked out the plane window waiting for the airplane to take off and fly across the U.S. to San Diego to see his grandparents for a month. The Finn knew he had at least a 16 hour flight and as he glanced over at the empty seat next to him. He hoped to God he wouldn’t get stuck next to a morbidly obese man like he had on the way over from Finland.

"Let us be lovers we'll marry our fortunes together"
"I've got some real estate here in my bag"
So we bought a pack of cigarettes and Mrs. Wagner pies
And we walked off to look for America

“Damn I need a cigarette,” he grumbled.

“Scuse me, need to get by and all.”

Ville paid no attention to the young voice coming from the front of the airplane. If he was lucky no one would sit by him at all and it would be a smooth ride all the way to San Diego.

"Kathy," I said as we boarded a Greyhound in Pittsburgh
"Michigan seems like a dream to me now"
It took me four days to hitchhike from Saginaw
I've gone to look for America

“Is anyone sitting here?” the young voice from the front of the plane was now standing right next to him. Ville sighed in slight aggravation before looking up to see a blue eyed boy staring at him with a smile on his face. The young Finn quickly looked the teen over. He was shorter than Ville but not by much, he had on a black and red stripped sweatshirt with faded and ripped blue jeans. But the thing Ville noticed the most about the young man was that underneath the black Nightmare before Christmas beanie was a mop of curly purple hair.

Laughing on the bus
Playing games with the faces
She said the man in the gabardine suit was a spy
I said "Be careful his bowtie is really a camera"

The Finn managed to find his voice and answered “Um, no…go ahead.”

The young man’s smile widened and he quickly shrugged his messenger bag off his shoulder and plopped down in the seat next to the older man. Ville sighed once more before settling in next to the window and continued to wait for the plane to leave the runway.

“So what’s your name?” the young man asked.

Ville didn’t really want to talk but he knew that not answering would be considered rude. “I’m Ville Valo.”

“Nice to meet you Ville Valo, my name’s Bam Wisdom,” the young man said, holding out his hand for the other man to shake.

"Toss me a cigarette, I think there's one in my raincoat"
"We smoked the last one an hour ago"
So I looked at the scenery, she read her magazine
And the moon rose over an open field

Ville quirked an eyebrow before slowly taking Bam’s hand in his and shaking it in greeting. “Bam Wisdom, that isn’t your real name, is it?” Ville asked.

The young man grinned “No.”

Ville waited for a moment, expecting for Bam to tell him his real name. But the other man just leaned over in his seat and dug in his bag for his bright blue CD player and headphones.

“Are you gonna tell me?” Ville asked.

Bam looked over at him with a small grin on his face, “Tell you what?”

"Kathy, I'm lost," I said, though I knew she was sleeping
I'm empty and aching and I don't know why
Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike
They've all gone to look for America

“Your real name.”

The young man’s grin turned into a soft smile before he answered simply, “No.”

Ville blinked in mild shock as he watched Bam put on his headphones and turned on his CD player before leaning back into the seat and pulling his legs up to sit Indian style.

“Please fasten your seatbelts we will be taking off in a matter of moments,” the stewardess said from the front of the plane. The two men along with the other people on board, did as they were told and buckled in.

Ville glanced over at the purple haired teen, he didn’t know why, but there was just something that made The Finn want to get to know the young man, become his friend, maybe become more.

All gone to look for America
