“Do you have everything?” Ville asked his stroppy son. Dani glared and pulled his case and backpack onto the bus.

“I’m not a silly little kid, you know, I can pack my own shit.”

“What have I told you about swearing?”

“More than you’ve told me about my other dad, that’s for sure.” It was a low punch, and Dani knew it, he also knew the best times to pick his little outbursts, times when Ville couldn’t say anything back, and would eventually let it slide.

He left his case just inside the bus, leaving Ville to put it away and plonked himself down next to Gas, waiting for a turn on the Playstation.

Ville put their bags with the other luggage at the back of the bus, smiling as he spotted Mige. “You had any luck yet?”

Ville shook his head. “I don’t know, it’s like he hit thirteen and turned into a kid from hell.”

“He’s at that age when it’s cool to be sullen and a bitch to your parents.”

Ville just nodded and smiled, wishing that were true. He could cope with that, but not the questions Dani was asking, not the resentment, the constant gay bashing, which Ville didn’t really understand considering Dani had been bought up to be open minded.

School had a lot to answer for.

Ville followed Mige down the bus and sat next to him, wishing he had a cigarette. He didn’t smoke as much since Dani had come along, but sometimes he needed the rush.

“You’ll teach me to play the drums?” Dani looked up at Gas, eyes wide and eager, he almost reminded Ville of the happy boy he used to be a year ago, before hormones kicked in.

“Sure,” Gas didn’t take his eyes from the console, his thumbs running fast over the controls.

“Cool! I love the drums.”

“I thought you loved the bass, and before that wasn’t it the guitar?” Gas looked at them all briefly.

“No, before that it was the keyboard.” Burton grinned and winked at Dani.

The youngster had been in awe of them all, and now, after thirteen years of been around them could play all of their instruments to a certain degree. If he set his mind to one particular instrument, instead of flitting from one to the other he would probably be fantastic.

“You know your dad can play the drums, don’t you?” Linde asked.

Dani looked at the guitarist as if he’d stepped in something rotten and rolled his eyes. “I want Gas to teach me, he’s a great drummer.”

Ville and Dani shared a hotel suite, the father not quite trusting his son to have his own room, separate from his. Dani, of course thought he was old enough and wanted a room as far away as Ville as he could get, but this was something Ville would not budge about.

“Can’t I go see what the others are doing?” Dani moaned, pacing up and down in the small living area that linked the two rooms.

“Let everyone get settled, then we’ll see what everyone is up to.”

He stormed into his room and slammed the door. Ville rolled his eyes and shook his head, nothing he did was good enough anymore.

He lugged his case into his room and left it at the end of the bed, not bothering to unpack, they would only be there for three nights and it just didn’t seem worth it for such a short stay.

There was a rap at the door and Ville swore under his breath, moving to answer it. His breath caught in his throat when he saw the tall, dark haired man in front of him. He had sunglasses on, and a long leather jacket, he looked good, too good.

“I thought maybe we could talk.” He took off his sunglasses and looked awkwardly at Ville. “We should clear the air.”

Ville looked towards Dani’s room and heard him move about. “Fine. Dani is here, though.”

Jyrki’s face soured and he pushed his glasses into his pocket. “You brought him on tour with you?”

Ville shrugged, he didn’t have to defend his choices to anyone. “He’s my son, he wanted to come.” He motioned towards the sofa and waited until Jyrki was seated before sitting opposite him. “So, what did you want to say?”

“You’re not going to make this easy for me, are you? It wasn’t my fault we split up, you know.” Ville didn’t answer and Jyrki sighed impatiently. “Look, we have to tour together, it wasn’t my idea, I’d happily go on ignoring you if it were up to me, but I don’t want the tension to effect the music.”

“Neither do I. It all happened a long time ago; we should try and forget it.”

Jyrki looked towards Dani’s room as they heard a crash. “How old is he now?”

“Thirteen-going on twenty-one.”
