April had already taken over making the pancakes, because Bam had burnt four. He was now watching the coffee drip into the pot. Ape had done almost everything, and she didn’t mind, it was just her maternal instinct to do everything that needed to be done. She had easily made a stack of pancakes, browned sausage, and made a bowl of mixed fruit, all in the time that it had taken Dunn to go buy laundry detergent.
When Dunn walked into the kitchen five minutes later, she was putting everything on plates, drinks in glasses and mugs, and then putting those on a tray that she had found in the Pirate Bar.
“Hey Ape, here’s the detergent you asked for.” Ryan said.
“Thank Ryan. Want me to make you some pancakes?”
“Sure, I’m starved.”
April set off to work again, as Bam searched the fridge for the final touch for the tray.
“Aha!” He said, finding a pack of Marlboro Lights in the back, and set them on the tray.
Bam went upstairs to Ville’s room and knocked on his door,
“Who is it?” Ville asked
“Bam.”
“You better have food or I’ll kill you.”
“I do.”
“Come in then.”
Bam carefully juggled opening the door and not spilling the tray. When he finally got it open, Ville was in the same spot when he left, still flipping through the channels. When Ville saw Bam and the food he smiled and shut the TV off. He set the tray next to Ville on the bed and Ville immediately started eating.
“This is good, Ape must’ve helped you.” Ville said in between bites of pancake.
“Yeah, my extent of cooking goes to a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.” Bam said laughing at himself.
“You’re still not totally off the hook. I want to know how you got that hickey.” Ville said taking a sip of orange juice.
“I seriously don’t remember, I guess I was too drunk.”
“Go and get Dunn, bring him up here. I want to ask him.” Ville said.
“Okay.” Bam replied heading to the door.
“And Bam,”
“Yeah Willa?”
“Bring up some beers on your way back.”
Bam left the room and went to find Dunn. He found him talking to Ape in the kitchen, eating a stack of pancakes.
“Dunn, Ville wants to talk to you.” Said Bam.
“But I’m eating.”
“Take it with you then, he wont care.” Bam said heading over to the fridge and grabbing a few beers.
Dunn got up from where he was sitting, “Thanks for the pancakes Ape.”
“No problem hun.” She replied.
“Hurry up Dunn.”
Ryan followed Bam up the stairs to Ville’s room. They walked in and Ville greeted the red head.
“Hey Dunn, what’s up?”
“Nothin’ much, you?”
“Same.”
Bam took a seat on the bed, and Dunn sat in one of the chairs that faced the TV.
“So Bam said you wanted to talk to me.” Said Ryan.
“Yeah, how did Bam get that hickey on his neck?”
“Some random girl was flirting with him and gave to him.”
“I see.”
“Why, did Bam finally tell you?”
“Tell me what?” Ville asked bewildered.
“Tell you how he feels about you. How he…”
Bam cut him off, “OK Dunn, I think you can go now.”
“Bam let him speak.” Ville said.
“No, I want to tell you how I feel.”
“Everyone knows how you feel about him Bam, me, Ape, Phil, Dico, Raab, except him. I’ll leave you so you two can talk.” Explained Dunn, getting up from his chair and heading out the door.
Ville opened up a beer and took a swig, “So Bam, how do you feel?”
“Ville, I…”
Ape walked through the door, a basket of folded laundry in her arms, “Sorry, I wasn’t interrupting anything, was I?” She said setting down the basket on the floor near Ville’s bags.
Ville mentally cursed.
Bam mentally praised every God and Angel there ever was.
“Are you done with your food Ville? I’ll take those plates for you.”
“Yeah, I’m finished, thanks April, it was delicious.” Ville replied handing over the plates.
“Bam made most of it.” She winked.
Ville laughed, “Sure he did.”
“Oh Bam that reminds me, Novak called, wanted to know if you wanted to hang out.” Said Ape, heading out the door.
“Oh I better call him then.”
“Oh no you don’t, we’re going to finish our conversation.” Ville said.
“Gotta go.” Bam said, scrambling off the bed and running for the door.
Ville sighed, “I guess I’ll never find out.”
Ville decided that it was finally time to stop waiting for Bam. If he had to, he’d pin him down and force Bam to tell him how he felt. He’d do it in Finland, where there would be no interruptions.
He got up from the bed, grabbed his coat, and headed downstairs. When he got downstairs, he put his shoes and coat on, and then headed out the door for a walk.
It was a cool, crisp Autumn day in West Chester. It was early October, but you could already feel the bite of the Winter to come in the North Eastern United States.
There was plenty of room to walk in the woods around Bam’s house, and not be bothered. It was an escape for Ville, to be alone and collect his thoughts.
That is, until something started vibrating in his coat pocket. He reached in his pocket and retrieved the vibrating object: his cell phone.
“Hello?” He answered.
“Hiya Ville.”
“Hey Linde, what’s up?”
“Nothin’ much, but you never called me back to say when you got a new flight.”
“Oh, I’m sorry, I forgot. Our flight is tomorrow, about 3 in the afternoon here.”
“Okay. What do you mean by ‘Our’ flight?”
“Oh yeah, Bam’s coming with me. That’s not a problem, is it?” Ville questioned.
“No, of course not. Just make sure he knows that we’re going to have to work, and it’s not going to be playtime all the time.”
“Got it Linde.”
“So how are things in West Chester? Good I hope.”
“Yeah, everything is fine great here.” Ville lied.
“Then why is it so silent in the background? Shouldn’t someone be screaming?” Asked the blond.
“I’m in the woods, I went for a walk to get away from the chaos, and to think.”
“Well I’ll leave you with your thoughts.”
“Okay, I’ll see you soon Linde.”
“Bye Ville.”
Ville put his cell phone back in his coat pocket and continued his walk.
He thought of the past couple of days, reflecting on all the things he and Bam had gone through, first their kiss, Bam forgetting all about him, how they always got cut off before Bam said how he really felt. Dunn’s words came floating in his mind, ‘We all know how you feel about him, except him.’ What did everyone else know that he didn’t? Did Bam love him as much as Ville loved him?
The rate their conversations were going, he may never know.
