The boy from the day before was there, in front of him, a smile creeping wickedly onto his face. He was beautiful. Bam looked down, trying to keep his manners and to hide his blush.

“Who’s this?” The boy asked softly. His voice was the same as the day before. Heavily accented, he must come from another place.

“That’s Bam, he’s 16.” Mizz Adair snapped. “Go to your room Bam, we’ll discuss the rest of this matter later.” He nodded and walked past the other boy and who he assumed was the boy’s father. Bam ran to the room and shut the door, climbing up to the window where he kept his cigarettes. He struck a match quickly and lit his half-smoked cigarette. His hand shook as he brought the cigarette to his lips. What if he was here to tell Mizz Adair what had happened. He couldn’t have known this was the orphanage that Bam lived at, could he? He smoked the cigarette down and put it out. He was waiting for the screech from Mizz Adair, but it never came.

The boy, Ville, was the son of the business man. Bam would be the one leaving. He would be the one living with the family for the month and when he got back, his punishment would be ten times as worse. That woman had something in for him. He looked at all the boys that night. Telling them his goodbyes because the next morning he’d be leaving to go stay with the Valo’s. Ryan was taking it the hardest. He was so young, he didn’t want Bam to leave for any amount of time.

“Bam, what about me?” Ryan asked, they were sharing a bed again.

“You’ll be fine Ryan, just stay close to Jimmy and Jared or Johnny. They’ll protect you, just like I do.”

“But they ain’t you.” Bam smiled.

“No, they’re not me, but I have to go. They said that if I’m good perhaps they’ll donate some money to this place, make it better for you, maybe you’ll get adopted after that?”

“You think?” Bam nodded and hugged the boy.

“Now get some sleep.” Ryan nodded and curled close to Bam’s side. Bam sighed and looked at the ceiling. Why did they pick him? Why? He didn’t have the most impressive record. Did Ville influence his father’s decision? He smiled into the darkness, at least he had a name to go with the face now. Ville. Ville Valo.

Bam Margera was his name. Ville thought as he turned over in his bed for the eighth time. He was born to a couple named Phil and April Margera. They were killed soon after his fourth birthday and the boy was remanded to the custody of the state. Bam had an older brother named Jess who had been placed in a mental institution, he was still alive, but the name of the institution had escaped the woman named Adair. Ville shivered. She was so creepy. He hated that any of those children had to live with her.

It hadn’t been hard to convince his father that he’d like Bam to be the orphan to live with him. His father had instantly liked the boy and he noticed Ville’s attitude change toward the whole situation. Perhaps this would be better than Ville thought. He smiled to himself and remembered what the woman had shown him.

Bam’s behavioral record.

He had run away so many times. He just wanted to be free. That only influenced his decision even more. Perhaps he would straighten up when he got back. Probably not, from all the other things Ville had seen on the record, but those made me laugh.

It was true, his attitude had changed, or maybe it was just Bam. He didn’t know and that simple fact bugged him. Which was why he had been tossing and turning for the last hour or so. Sighing he turned onto his back and squeezed his eyes shut.

Knock knock.

“Come in.” The door opened and Ville’s little brother poked his head in the door. “What is it Jesse?”

“Can I talk to you?”

“It’s late Jesse, you should be in bed.”

“You’re wide awake too.” His brother slipped into the bed beside him. “What’s he like Ville, tell me again.”

“Who?”

“The orphan you picked out. Tell me why?”

“To be completely honest with you, I ran into him on the street and I decided that he was the one.”

“That seems too simple. You were completely set against this.” Ville looked at his brother.

“People change.”
