Appropriately enough, there are a lot of time travelers in them

I've been spending some time going through old (in internet time, very old), fanfic archives, reading some of the first fics I ever read and loved. For example, The Shi'ar Coffee Story, which is still as silly and funny as I remember it being ( Read more... )

I love reading about how people found fandom. :) I had a friend in Japan lend me a fanfic that had Methos "striding purposefully" in the first line and if there was one thing I have as a personal pet peeve, it's to stride (purposefully) from within the character's POV. That and smirk. Man, I hate protagonists who smirk and still expect me to empathize with them.

So I went online to find better versions of this new thing, found the pillars archive, found slash, then found that thing I'd been doing my whole life actually had a name. It was amazing.

I find those journeys into the depths of fanfiction archives to be bittersweet. So many authors vanished, so many stories left hanging.

And then there's Eyrie Productions. Still chugging along, 20 years later. A testament to one man's love of copyright violation. *rimshot*
