Done. Sorta. For now.

That last pair of fics are the last ones of my philosophy_20 Oracle challenge. I'm thinking of it as a qualified non-disaster. I didn't have as much fun as I had with Lex, or the same feeling of understanding what the character is about ( Read more... )

I'd say that most difficulties for me in this challenge came from the fact that Oracle was developed in canon in a way that, I think, makes little use of the potential of the premise.

Which is a real pity, because the concept is not only cool, but makes sense, and it's one of few truly modern additions to the superhero concept. Maybe that's why it's used so little? Oracle is a different genre.

I don't know Babs' character enough to make a qualified statement, but I don't think I like her. I just like the idea of Oracle and what you made of it :)

Yes, I think so. It feels like a proto-Ghost in the Shell (the manga rather than the movie, and the second part more so), which has a different ethos than DC-style superheroics.

You know, this series is the only reason I haven't ditched this icon yet. razorsmile May 2 2007, 14:53:20 UTC
Liked them.

Strange though. Completion here feels rather anticlimactic unlike, say, the Lex Luthor (which, if I recall, finished with _infinity_ which couldn't have been more perfect an ending if it tried). Overall, this set had a very subdued feel, not so much dark as grey.

I know what you mean. In a way, for Lex I had an overall story to tell - it's in his nature to *do* things, to change. Oracle, in a way, is as radical a change as you could ask for, but that's rather for a Barbara Gordon challenge. Oracle is a Ghost in the Shell: Man Machine Interface character in a DC world that doesn't really work along the same vectors.

I definitely liked them, and I'm not at all sorry I ordered requested an Oracle thing from you.

Also, I totally missed the significance of the titles. A brilliant man is you!

I just wanted to say that I really loved your Oracle drabbles here. Barbara comes across as incredibly talented and confident in her knowledge. I loved reading the one where she fucked with the hacker trying to find her, the world where she downloads/uploads and all of the interesting ideas that you illustrated. I found it really clever and highly enjoyable.
