Racefail aside, it's felt much more juvenile than the anime. It's a movie about finding and taking ownership of yourself, while the anime *begins* with the Major knowing very well who and what she is

As much as I enjoy Scarlett Johansson, especially when she's playing the inhuman  (which she does so well), I had already decided to just put a Stand Alone Complex rewatch on the agendaninstead.

Rewatching Stand Alone Complex is a better alternative to a very large number of things (and, thinking about it, I do have to agree with you about Johansson).
