There's a large possibility I may be moving to Brookings.

I'm from a growing city in Southern California and I've been told that Brookings is more of a small beach town with a lot of older people.

One, it that true?; and two, where is the nearest shopping/city area?

A great place to find new fun adventures in Oregon is the 365 Days in Oregon, part of the Travel Oregon website.  I clicked on 6/29 the picture of llamas, and was taken to a website on how you can go on a hike with an accompaning llama.  You can even submit your own photo and event information to the website.
