Being around in this fandom since the beginning of the show I often bemoan the fact there aren't a great number of well written gen fics anymore. So, when I saw this one I thought maybe all is not lost. I'm damned glad I stopped here and started reading this.

The voices of Bobby and John are sweet perfection. Reading their friendship grow over the years in your words was as if I were watching an episode of the show. Every scene etched into my brain in HD Technicolor. And although they've never told the entire story of Bobby and John's falling out I always suspected it was because of John telling Sam not to come back if he left for Stanford.

Thank you so much for coming back to this story and finishing it. But thank you even more for sharing it and giving me hope there are more stories of the gen variety to be told.

Wow, I am truly humbled. This was so very thoughtful and kind, and has not only made my night, but my next day too.
I agree with you whole-heartedly. Gen fic seems to be a dying breed and avid gen readers even more scarce, so I am so very grateful to have caught your attention.
I am so happy that you felt this was like watching an episode. Working within canon is one of my favorite ways to write; adding to and filling in the missing details...it's the reason I started writing after Season 5.
Thank you so much for this beautiful comment. I will happy to give you more Gen variety hope for as long as we have Show. :)

I'm so glad I made your night and day. I won't lie I do write slash, but as a writer I've also written gen and have never adhered to one type of fic. I've often taken heat over the years for bouncing back and forth from fellow fans and not only for that, but also because I refuse to pick a favorite character ( ... )

I read the Hell out of slash fic, but I've never written, although my friends try to peer pressure me into it. :) And I too, haven't written as much as I have in the past. I think for me, writing is a chance for me to puzzle out the questions that Show writers have left open. And these last couple of seasons, I haven't been inspired with as many burning questions as I was during Season 5 & 6. (I think this may change in season 9) So, I've spent a lot of time writing pre-series backstory. It's kind of my favorite.

I'm the same way. Gotta get my ideas out there before I'm Kripked by Show. :) I'm very excited about this coming season. I'll make sure and keep my eye out for your pre-season gen fic! :D

Oh wow, I loooooved this last scene. That was beautiful. And Bobby's giggle/gag demonstration made me LOLOL. Trece, this was heartwarming and sad and so beautifully written. I'm beyond thrilled that you got it done. The history of Bobby and John is barren. Not enough people understand the characters as well as you to tell it the right way. I usually shy away from John fics because very few people in this fandom understand him. Now, I know he wasn't father of the year. I know he was neglectful and obsessed and a drunk, but there has never been a doubt in my mind that he loved those boys. Everything John ever did was out of love. Love for Mary, mostly. And definitely love for his boys. We don't have to worry about it much here in this country but when you raise your kids in a war zone, life isn't about picket fences and school dances. And that's what life was for John. All he could see was blood and pain and fire and monsters. All he could see was his Mary dying, being ripped away from him, and knowing John, everything he did after that ( ... )

Okay, secret... the giggle/gag scene...really happened. 'Cept it wasn't thrown up Hawaiian pizza, it was my & my brother & seven dead mice in a tub of water. They'd been in there for weeks, drowned and bloated and soaking for so long that their coats were peeling away from their bloated bodies. And they smelled. Oh God, did they smell. But the tub was too big and it HAD to be emptied, so we used a milk bag jug to scoop the water & the dead mice out of the sink. We carried them, one scoop at a time out of the building, around the corner and out to the field. But the smell was SO bad that we started gagging, and it was so gross that it became funny. So there we were, working as fast as we could to get the tub emptied, gagging and giggling, with tears flowing down down our faces.

You know the saying: Write what you know. :) That's one of the reasons that writing these men is so fun to me. Because I have TONS of stories from my own family that I can use. :)

I love this comment! Trece and I had so many lengthy conversations about John and his parenting and motivations and so on and we'd actually talked about the fact that he was raising his kids in a war zone...but a war zone that most other people never even knew existed...and so he was totally focused on survival. And they have survived (mostly...the occasional temporary death notwithstanding!) because of their Dad's training. :)

I loved this story! The ending was beautiful. I really like that you showed more sides to John. He gets such a bad rap in some stories. My preference is gen stories about the show. They are getting harder to find. So this was a treasure in so many ways! Thank you for writing it and sharing it!

Thank you so very much!! I also think John gets a bad rap, but I'll admit, it's hard to write him without going overboard.
Well you're in luck; I only write Gen. :) This was such a lovely compliment, Thank you!!!

I loved this story even though it made me sniffle several times.
I miss Bobby so much on the show that I take any opportunity to read fic that features him.

I was so impressed with all the backstory you worked out with the bare bones we're given in canon. It makes perfect sense that the one thing that would cause Bobby to pull a gun on John would be his treatment of Sam and Dean.
Best Bobby line ever? {"As fate would have it, I adopted two boys and they grew up great. They grew up heroes."}

In my mind Bobby hit the ground running when he was sent to Heaven and immediately started looking for Ash, Pamela, etc. I believe he'll take the lead in figuring out how to help the boys from the other side of Heaven's door. When Metatron kicked the angels out of heaven I don't think he counted on being trapped with a bunch of pissed off hunters and the damage they can cause. Anyway, that's how it's playing out in my head. :) Sorry for the rant.

Thank you so very much! Bobby is my favorite character and features in almost every fic I write because I love his relationship w/ the boys. Most of my fics not only fit into Canon, they also fit into each other. Several of the scenes in this are direct references to previous fics.
I also have a timeline of all major events in Canon & origins with my own timeline blended in. I'm fanatic about.. love love love it. :)

I love your idea about Bobby being a hunter in heaven & working to take care of Booger. What a great way to bring back a few past cast members too. Did you see Jim has a reoccuring role on Revolution this coming season. :)

Thank you so much for reading and taking the time to comment. Means the world to me. <3

This was really great. Very sad, but so great. The argument scene between Sam and John was heart-breaking.

You did a great job with this. Thanks so much for sharing!
