Under the name of Avni (The merciful), Mehmed wrote himself ghazals*. Here are two of them. The first one is for a young Christian priest in Istanbul:
“I saw an angel with a sunny image, moon of the Universe.
The black cypresses of his curly hair are the sobs of lovers.
He is as the shining moon dressed in black, this gracious cypress.
