The seasonal obsession begins in earnest with our first proper snowfall. My beloved anisoptera reports spotting four male cardinals.

Only time we ever see more than two at once is with obvious family groups -- paired adults and some youngsters. But cardinals have only moved into Maine in the last decade or so.
