I haven't ranted about fictional black characters in a while, and something daffy_dork showed me made me want to do this.

Yeah, something tells me he's more of a Marvel flawed-hero type than a DC iconic-hero type. Although maybe he's invented his own category, the crap hero.

Steel bombed, Catwoman bombed miserably, and the Blade movies, while rocking overall, weren't huge summer blockbusters. Hancock is, so it's certainly a landmark event.....I think.

Or will it just be forgotten the next time Will Smith does a 4th of July blockbuster? I don't see Hancock having staying power, at least the comic book characters were around before and after their movies.

Puffy is an idiot. There's a reason The Boondocks comic strip (which really geeked out on Superheroes and sci-fi overall) knocked him around mercilessly.

Ha ha, I love to see him get his due. I'm not a regular reader of Boondocks, what kinds of things do they say about him?

Yeah, that part was messed up, but it's funny. He's pretty much saying that you can only look up to heroes that are like you. White people can only like white heroes, black people can only like black heroes, and dogs are the only ones who like Underdog.

I can sort of see Diddy's point of view. He, unfortunately, embraces that black stereotype (which is one of the reasons I think he makes a lousy role model), and since Hancock also fit that stereotype, it just means that he's "keeping it real". And that's, apparently, how you make a black superhero.
