In which Samus' memory is restored

Feb 07, 2009 15:53

[O hay, is that... it is! Samus is looking actually pleasant for once as she sits on top of her ship with her arms pulling her knees up to her chest. She was, well, happy. She had regained her memory and Adam was finally functioning. And while it was tempting to rush over to someone's house right then and there, she thought she would wait and spend ( Read more... )

[A certain concerned neighbor is on his way over to see how Samus is doing and if she has her memory back. She'll probably see him coming before he notices she's on top of the ship.]

Alright, then shall we go? Is there anything you need to do first? [He himself has a certain list of somewhat compulsive house locking up procedures he goes through when leaving the place.]

No, ready to go. Adam'll hold down the fort while we're gone.

Of course.

[Readies the ship missiles]

I should've guessed. [He nods.]

[And off they go to the docks! And there stand the warehouses in their long rows of impressiveness and mystery. But wait, something's different. There's something floating by the docks...]

Is that a boat?

[Why yes Chief. It is. Actually, I think it's more of a pirate ship.]

I didn't know there where any boats here. Well, I knew there was one but it was more of a luxury ship

Do you want to check it out?

Yes. I'd like that very much. [He can't see anything moving on it, besides it bobbing up and down in the water.]

It's a wooden boat. [He approaches it cautiously, noting the black flag with the stereotypical white skull and crossed bones.]

I wonder how it got here, or if anyone's on board.

Odd.

[Samus, sensing absolutely nothing wrong (or at least, that the boat does not seem to cause any mortal danger at the moment) goes ahead and hops on board]

Very. [He feels better taking a short running start first, and it makes him more confident when there doesn't seem to be a reaction to his boots thudding on the deck. It seems very strange to him for a ship of any kind to be so quiet.]

Alright, I think it's derelict. Maybe it has a log still? That would be wherever the captains' quarters are, wouldn't it?

Probably. [She surveys the deck of the ship from where she's standing]

There's a door. [Points]

Then let's see what's behind it. [Hand near his sidearm, Chief opens the door. On the other side is what really does appear to be the captain's quarters, complete with furniture that must have been to die for in something like the 18th century. Unfortunately, there's something strange about it.]

[She follows in after him, wasting no time taking a look inside. She pulls some sort of book off of a shelf and leafs through it.]

How old do you think this is?

I don't know, we haven't used wooden boats in centuries on my end. I've heard of ships floating derelict at sea for years, but if that's the case I think it would've just smashed into the dock.

[He peers at the book] What did you find?

We really don't use boats, wooden or not.

[Flips it closed and hands it to him.]

I can't really understand it. Some of the pages are water damaged and the handwriting is sort of hard to read. [It's all loopy and fancy writing]

Huh. [Hard to read indeed!] Ancient penmanship. [He flicks through the pages, they seem pretty dusty and stiff with the water damage in spots. He opens it to a random page.]

I'm not sure if it's in English. Then again it might be the writing. [Infinity decides to be useful, and clears up the writing to be legible to them like how everything in the library is magically universal. It seems to be an old record of some kind...]

I think this is a log of plunder. This line here might even be the desk over there.

[He finds one that isn't obstructed too much by water]

October seventh the year's obliterated, attacked settlement at Freeport. Grigsby dead, shot. Things gained:

3 cows (live)
2 barrels gunpowder
1 particle cannon
Assorted foodstuffs
3 floodlights
1 generator (solar)
2 dogs (rat hunters)
1 suit of p. armor

[He looks at the page, decidedly confused.] What is all of that doing on the same page?!
