Strange. My brother and I were talking about this just today, that if the power went off for good tomorrow most of us would be gone by Bogey Day, because so few people know how to raise food, or build a shelter, or what wild plants are safe to eat, or (yes) how to build a simple fire. Once we can't pay people to do these things for us anymore, we'll just have to sit down and wait to die.

When I write longhand for an extended period of time, my wrist gets very sore, my hand cramps, and I lose some control of my fine motor skills. My handwriting gets sloppy faster than it used to, b/c my hand gets so tired now. I noticed this in 2005 and often make a point of writing longhand just for practice. I definitely do not want to lose the ability.

There's a paranoid part of me that thinks we are "supposed" to forget how to do things, so that whenever "they" decide to pull the various plugs, we really will be helpless. (Now, I don't act on that paranoid part too much, but it can't hurt to know how to do things ( ... )
