Characters: Lily Evans, Edgar Bones
Summary: Lily's first day at work doesn't go quite as she expected.

Notes: If I had an extra 200 words I'd throw in a subtexty allusion to a certain ship, but otherwise this is what I'd want from new canon. Thanks to She-Knows-Who for the beta.

So good! I love seeing the inner workings of the First-War Ministry.

I was so pleased when I read this last night (yes, I peaked as they came through :p). This is just how I love Lily - smart, a bit defiant and ever so capable. I like that you make the mere fact that she a tense fact. It is matter even juicier by dropping the speculation that it is hard to tease out whether that is due to her gender or her background.

Very much enjoyed!

hee, that is your modly prerogative and very well earned. I'm so glad you liked this! And so glad that you like this idea of Lily; I like it ever so much better when she is an active and independent character.

Oooh! How cool! I wasn't expecting that ending at all, but it's awesome.

What ship would you have thrown in??

Thank you! I'm really glad you liked the ending; I wasn't quite sure I was setting it up properly.

Remus/Sirius -- the bucketloads of Remus/Sirius subtext was one of my favorite things about canon, so any wishlist I'd write for new canon would have new subtext. But in retrospect I think I would've needed more than 200 additional words to get that one in there.

Ooh, very nice. I love fics exploring sexism and similar issues in the Wizarding World, and I especially loved how the Mystery of Love is, of course, one of the strongest weapons against Voldemort, though of course defiant Lily would not at first see it that way. A very thought-provoking ficlet!

Thought-provoking is exactly what I hoped for, so: yay, thank you! The books really do ask for some gender reexamination, don't they? *sigh*
