OMG I want one of these

Sep 10, 2008 13:19

I've been good and managed not to covert all the things I can't have cos I'm a skint student... But this just pushed the balance too far.  I want one and I want it now! (I can wait as far as the weekend, but that's it).

In other news - am a leetle high this week... must be the aclimation in autumn etc.  Keep having to remind myself to eat...

flights of insanity, mental health

You will NOT waste money on frivolous tech anonymous September 10 2008, 14:48:42 UTC

You have work to do and food to eat to keep the cogs turning. And then about a months solid drinking. So there.

Besides, you're always down the rabbit hole.

You made me want shiny things. Don't make me want shiny things! I can't buy things right now that aren't food or necessities. My bank account is crying...

Not because of the technology - it's actually pretty good.
(Saw a few demos of eInk a couple of years ago)

But because of the DRM Sony loaded the thing with.

When you buy a book for this, you get to download it exactly once.
- Interrupted download? Screw you, pay Sony more moneys!

You also cannot back up the book files at all (a Ghost of the machine might work, but short of that...)
So when your hard disk goes titsup - again, pay Sony more moneys!

Until Sony learn not to screw over their *paying* customers, they will get no more business from me.

- For example, I bought a DVD that turned out to be from Sony BMG two months ago. Two of the dics in the set were from Paramount/Tristar, and they played perfectly under VLC on my desktop PC.

The final disc was a Sony BMG. It refused to play under VLC or on my desktop at all - oddly enough, it played OK on my laptop under Windows Media Player. But WMP is utter crap when it comes to full-screen video.
