That sounds like a very responsible, socially-responsible stand to take - as long as your work isn't burdensome. After working so long, I think you deserve a break whenever you feel the need for it. :)
Personally, I don't ever plan to retire from writing or other creative work. I feel differently about different kinds of jobs, and I've done a wide range of them. Some are harder on a person than others and I don't blame anyone who wants a break from the hard ones.
I probably haven't been reading all the same articles you have, because I don't see retirement as necessarily a bad thing for society - it might open up jobs for people who need them, in some cases. But I certainly understand not wanting to call on the social security network when one can be contributing and playing a useful role.
If I thought the tradeoff would be one to one and a young person would get my job and maybe support someone in her circle, I might consider. I have thought about this. What I have seen, however, is I retire and my co-workers are expected to take up the slack. Also, even if they hire a young person it is at a lower rate of pay and the young person cannot help others at the same rate I may be able to help.
